Souvenirs. I buy postcards. And then I write down important facts from our trip there. I have one binder to store them all together in page protectors.

This is the type of minimalism I appreciate. It's not completely getting rid of almost all of your stuff and only wearing black, grey or beige clothes, it's about being mindful of what & why you buy and appreciating what you have.

After we retired and were downsizing, I often wondered why we spend our whole adult lives amassing things that we end up getting rid of,

One of my grown daughters suggested I watch this channel after my solution to having a houseful of crap was to get a dumpster and park it right next to the front door and start pitching. So some of is in the family, started the challenge of decluttering for 30 days. It was life changing. And I've never looked back. I'm still hauling things to donate but we are getting there. Box by box and room by room. We are close to being finished.

You are a blessing. I came from Venezuela. Grew up with very little. Then when I move to America it was like "the American dream" it is having it all. But actually the "the American dream" it is the ability to live with less and give more. God have give us many blessings in this country, yet we can live a full and happy life with less. God is good. I like your Chanel so much. Your family is a blessing. Thank you

I love how you mentioned avoiding media that makes you dissatisfied with your lifestyle and home

Don’t forget LIBRARIES - books, magazines, audiobooks, movies, e-books - all for FREE.
A trip to the library is my ‘splurge’ and it doesn’t cost a penny.

As a 64 year old widow, I think you are SPOT On! I can't tell you how many years I agonized over the holidays. Last year I put my foot down and said no more. I bought a few things for my 2 youngest grandkids because they still believe in Santa. Those things were a flashlight, sleeping bag, a fleece blanket for granny's house and one action figure. They don't have to steal my flashlights any more!

I was raised by hoarders, and hoarded as an adult. I also started minimalism as a way to get out of debt, but I thought that meant hoarding things so I wouldn't have to buy them again later.
Getting rid of things that I am not using NOW... HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!

My mother and father were minimalist long before the word became popular. They were very austere and reared the six of us to never long for anything material. My mother used to say, “The more you own, the more IT owns you”. Wow! They could have written a book on this. Thanks, Mother and Dad.

I started by pretending we were moving and thought about what I would NOT want to take with me and still not use. It’s really great! I love your videos. Making memories is where it’s at. Whatever doesn’t fit in my casket I don’t need it-actually since I’m a minimalist, I may think about cremation. 😂😂❤️

My mum always used to say "Only buy some new clothes if when you try them on, they make you look better than what you are currently wearing."

As a Taiwanese, it’s so convenient to just give “red envelope” as a gift for all kinds of occasions. It’s just a red envelope with cash inside and words of good wishes written outside. No gift cards needed!

Great list, unlike many influencers who cut back on “luxury” goods. My ah-ha moment came when I was fortunate enough to travel to Morocco. Our tour guide was a 20-something who used an old mobile phone with a cracked screen to run his guide business. He sent money to his very rural (remote) family so his sister could go to school. He took us to visit families who live in tents (what they’ve done for centuries) with the bare minimum of possessions and a very old woman who kept her two goats in her house and slept on the floor. It made me so ashamed of my excess. Most people in the U.S. just don’t have ANY idea how fortunate we are!

Thank you for saying no to air freshener and scented laundry/bath products! I know someone who is allergic and in genuine pain to be in the same room with people who use scented products like that and I'm so glad to see people finally moving away from them!

I snapped this Christmas. I can’t do it anymore. And people say: “it’s all about the kids, you can’t quit Christmas.” That’s both true and false. It’s all about training a new generation to be slaves to consumerism. So in that sense, yeah. It’s all about the kids. And yes, I can quit Christmas as I’ve known it my whole life... buying all this crap we don’t need... buying filler crap worrying their Christmas won’t look like enough to them. I have two children. I asked them each what their favorite gift was from last year. And neither one of them could even remember a single thing they got last year. This is painful... you know? I swear I feel like the less we have, the happier we are. I’ve been through some trying times financially... and I swear my family was the happiest we had ever been when we had the least amount of money to spend.

I have always loved hotels because rooms seem so calming - no stuff. Having my house like that is what I’m working toward.

If you enjoy ... “dusting them” 😂

As a full time housekeeper for many moms... this is why I became a minimalist.

I've heard you mention the target dollar spot in several videos now. The way I was able to kick the buying from the dollar spot and other "really good deal" type spending was, I started asking myself "why is this so cheap?" Most of the time things are that cheap it's because they're coming from a country where the people that are making these items are not being paid a fair wage, or might even be made by children, out of materials that are subpar and even potentially toxic. It's a sobering thought that helped me to form better spending habits.
