Ajahn Brahm talks about the banning of his speech on gender equality. Ajahn Brahm gives a powerful talk on how to bring about gender equity in Buddhism that is acceptance of full Bhikkhuni ordination. Ajahn looks at how social activism in Buddhism works and how people can reach any goal as long as it is worthwhile; meaning not just for your own happiness and peace but for the happiness and peace of all sentient beings, such as lowering consumption and materialism.
If you support women's right to ordination in Theravadan Buddhism and you support Ajahn Brahm's work please consider signing the online petition here:

The Buddha never talked about banning women from being nuns. This is Buddhism, where being woman or man is just another object of mind. Banning nuns is a cultural practice that has nothing to do with Buddhism. It's time to go. Sign the petition!!!

Sadhu, Sadhu, Thank you! lol

Venerable Ajahn Brahm, I have been listening to your videos two days in  a row now; some issues that perplexed me and kept me neutral have finally dropped my reservation toward.  I now do understand!  Compassion, Love and kindness.

I find it fascinating that this topic is arising within Buddhism. I hold such respect of the monks and practioners that I reserve all judgement.
What are the reasons for not ordaning women? What are the reasons for introducing our post modern western culture of equality in this matter?

Don't be confused by equality and equity. Equality of choice is great bit but equity implies equal outcome and that has never worked out well

I guess there's politics even in our community. I just signed the petition to permit Ajahn Brahm to speak at this gathering.

I agree that switching to pink robes is a great way to show the hypocrisy.

Viniya - Monks have to abide by the rules. It was very hard for women to live by these rules and the lineage ended. To continue this lineage, if reasons are good enough to support how women can live by these rules when they ordain, anywhere they will live, then it can be a good start.

This is important because one should support ones sisters, not just our brothers - and for me it's also a personal case, in that sense that my "dhamma dad", venerable ajhan Brahm deserves my voice in this matter. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu :)

Considering that Ajarn Brahm is NOT connected with a Theraveda temple how can he represent Buddhist ??? 22 October 2009, on 1 November 2009, at a meeting of senior members of the Thai monastic sangha, held at Wat Pah Pong, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, Brahm was removed from the Ajahn Chah Forest Sangha lineage and is no longer associated with the main monastery in Thailand
