GALAXY NOTE 8 VS LG V30: Which One is REALLY Better?

LG V30 or Galaxy Note 8. At first glance, they might seem like totally different phones and maybe it wouldn’t be too hard to choose one over the other, but Criminey. It’s been weeks now and I still can’t make a decision. Maybe I'll get the iPhone X tonight and it'll all be moot
This is a tough one, much tougher than I really thought it was going to be when I decided to give the LG V30 a try even though I was disappointed with the direction LG took with the V series by removing the removable battery feature and secondary screen. I was pleasantly surprised, however. They were able to keep a lot of the features the V series offered with the second screen and the need for the removable battery was mitigated to a certain extent by surprisingly good battery life. The V30 and the Note 8 each have a 3300 mah battery and I’ve found their battery life to be just about the same through a day’s use. And the fact that some of that time comes with using the V30s quad DAC quite a bit is really impressive. The DAC used to kill the battery on other V series phones, but somehow it’s not a problem here.

The v30 has the best digital zoom..so not having the telephoto lense wont be a problem.

If I use Note8, I can use a small external device to substitute for the DAC in V30. (More inconvenient, but it's an option.)
If I use the V30, there is no way to substitute for the S-pen and all its mighty features.

Don't forget though... Note8 not only has S-pen and the best display in the smartphone market, it also has one more unique thing: Knox. I feel much safer using Note8 for this reason, especially the Secure Folder protected by Knox.

Me and my brother couldn't figure out how lg made the v30 so light, they're almost identical but when you hold both you can definitely feel a difference.

Switched from the iPhone 7plus to the Note 8 and I hated it so much! The phone itself is gorgeous but I wasn’t enjoying it on a daily use. Decided to return it and switched to the V30 and instantly fell in love. Idk if it was my model but the Note was at times laggy during split screen operations and that fingerprint readers is just garbage. With the V30 I haven’t had a single complaint. Obviously this is my opinion based on my experiences with the phone. All in all it’s all about preference and opinion. No one is wrong and the only ones taking the W are the companies itself.

Hi Jason. The Note 8 would have to be the way to go. I remember a video you made saying you like the S Pen due to having take notes on the go. You being a headphone guy and having the external DAC's then you get the best of both worlds. I would say no contest. But it will come down to personal preference also. Depends what you will use the most.

I just got my LG V30 two days ago where I live in Canada. I really love photography and I prefer the unique super wide angle and the promise of better sounds features of the V30 so I decided to wait. Watching this video...really makes me so happy with my decision! It did not come with the BO headphone like in some other markets and that's my only disappointment I can mention about my V30...but now I can always order a good set. Could you please recommend or tell me again the model/name of that particular headphone that you used for the review? Btw...great unbiased review!

I have a Note 8 after being a long time Windows Phone user. I have really enjoyed this video and have subscribed to the channel. Honestly, really miss the UI on Windows Phone but the Note and the S-Pen are really nice to have. Looking forward to seeing more content. Keep up the great work.

I would get the V30 ... The only things the Note 8 is superior compared to the V30 is the selfie camera, the display and the S-pen features. Everything else the V30 has . I woul rather get a superior "main" camera (the G6 camera is better than the note 8 so The V30 camera will definitely outperform both) with a Hi-Fi DAC. From all the battery life videos ive seen the V30 lastest longer than the note 8.

I went with the V30. I know myself well enough to know that I wouldn't pull that S pen out much once the initial "play with it" period was over. I love audio and I love the control I have over shots, especially stills. Also, recording at events/concerts is amazing. I also like the form-factor a bit more; the Note is humungous.

Great review. Both great phones. I'm already in love with v30. It has many whao factors. Can't imagine any other phones.
