I had that graft in 1991. The nurse was checking my knee and when she put the brace strap back she pressed on the tibia….right where the graft was removed. 🤦🏻‍♀️I screamed out a bit from that pain. Kinda like when my doctor pressed on my femur, right where I had a big bone bruise from tearing my acl and mcl. Ugh. Anyway the graft has held up very well. Only issue was extra bone growing right where the end point of the patella is. The PT people had me doing hard leg extensions on the cybex machine, I think that helped cause this.

Does the patellar tendon grow back with the new bone growth?

What happens to the bony defects after harvesting the mid-third of the patella tendon? I had mine in 1996. I can still run, jump, etc. I suspect I developed a mild arthritis on m left knee. It gets stiff and I need to pop it to make the discomfort away.

Yeah it is the worst choice of graft possible. I had my right knee done and all I feel is pain and regret and I am 2 years out of that surgery. Quad graft is the best choice out there now. No pain 2 weeks out of surgery and am almost 6 months and still no pain a more functional knee then my right.
