This is a pretty easy, almost lame puzzle. But it has one really nice redeeming feature.
A forced en passant that leads to mate on the next move. Very cute.

I saw the first move, and once you confirmed it, I found the rest.

I recognized that the pawn could check the King, but dismissed it because white could just take it en passant. I didn't realize that opened up the way for the queen.

Well there are 2 ways the king can go

2)Kf6 Qg6#

or

2)Ke4 f5#

I assumed, incorrectly, that the winning idea would result in the winning of the White queen.

I accidentally stumbled on the checkmate in 3 as my very first attempt at solving it, since the queen move was the most forcing one, and I wanted to check the king with the pawn as a joke. However, I really liked the puzzle, forcing to take en passant is hilarious.

What are you talking about?!
En passant is not required but an option?!?!
En passant is ALWAYS forced! It is legally required to take en passant when you have the chance!
In Bulgaria it is mandatory by constitution and not taking en passant is considered a crime for which you will be death sentenced!
En passant is absolutely 100% forced!!!
