He's genuine! Stand up guy, straight shooter! My kind of mechanic! I can dig it!

Direct injection gasoline engines in general need oil changes very often. Also I have learned that it is crucial to use a good name brand full synthetic oil. Gasoline direct injection engines run hotter and are prone to diluting the oil with fuel. So you really need to keep up with changing spark plugs too. Now before someone says something about the oil you go with a name brand so you get a better additive package in the oil. Another thing I have learned is direct injection engines prefer 93 octane. Yes the ECM absolutely knows what kind of fuel you are running. I'm a mechanic of over ten years and went to a trade school. Just trying to help people out is all, just like this dude. My wife has a 2016 Traverse by the way.

I have a 3.6 engine in my 2010 CTS, I'm learning a lot of things I didn't know before. Great video Boss!

I have a 2004 Cadillac CTS 3.6, first year of the 3.6 with the original style timing chains. In years after GM changed the chains and gears to be quiet. This is when it has the most problems, I believe 2005+. Change oil Mobil 1 10W-30 every 5000 miles for life of car. 229, 000 miles, original timing set!

Excellent info. I have a new to me 2013 XTS with 60K - did a Liqui Moly engine flush, then a few miles on an oil change, and then changed again and put in amsoil signature series with a new delco filter. The first oil had been in there about a thousand miles - the dealer did it pre-sale prep. I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED at how dark the oil came out, even the second change was dark.
Engine is nice and quiet, I'm hoping to get plenty more reliable miles on it.

BTW, did a drain and fill on the 6T70 automatic fluid three times - again, shocking how dark the fluid was. Don't neglect these cars - they will bite you back HARD!!

I dig your style. Real down to earth, no fancy shit, but you know what you're talking about.

Confirms what I've been hearing. I just changed the timing chains (195, 000 miles `09 cts). Code was saying left bank chain was stretched and I couldn't pass emissions. All done and did a couple of changes and a flush (and a plug change).
No problem passing emissions. Its gotten only mobile synthetic - but I'm bumping my changes up to every 3, 000 miles. Good video - THANK YOU!

I've learned a lot from you Sir!! This & similar videos opened my eyes on some erroneous assumptions I had about this Engines' behavior!!! Well done Dude!

Thank you for this video. This seems to be a problem with many GM engines. Great job. Rev

Just did this job on my moms 2008 Cadillac Srx with 197k miles. I added 2 oil catch cans because of the bad ventilation. And I add a quart of oil every 1500 miles. Great engine, just gotta keep on eye on the oil level.

Great advice! My car has a 3.6 LF3 motor, I change the oil religiously at 4000 miles - $60 every few months is way cheaper than $6000 for a motor. I arrived at this conclusion by sending out oil samples to blackstone labs and tracking the oil additives, 3500-4000 is perfect, 4500 if there is some reason I can't do it right away. Granted, my car is a twin turbo which is harder on the oil than a naturally aspirated one, but I'm almost at 100k and my engine looks immaculate inside and the timing chains are in perfect shape.

I appreciate the breakdown on these engines big bro. I have heard that these engines are bulletproof as long as you keep clean oil in them. I change it every 3k-4k miles in my 2018 Camaro and my service guy looks at me crazy every time I come in with 50% oil life remaining 😂 😂😂

The reason I know this is because I tried turning the engine over with no spark plugs and was shocked how much force it takes to turn that engine over and realized it was the high pressure fuel pump taking all that Force. After I remove the pump the engine would turn over very easy like the normal engine should but with that pump in there it takes a lot of force to turn that over and all that force goes through the timing chains, the bottom and the front one. Good video thanks.
