"Bradley Cooper has reignited a “Jewface” debate — as the first teaser for his Leonard Bernstein biopic features him wearing a large prosthetic nose.

Netflix released the trailer for the film “Maestro” Tuesday, describing the movie as a “fearless love story” between the brilliant composer, played by Cooper, and his wife, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, played by Carey Mulligan."

But the man DID have a big nose! So what? No one’s mocking him!

Steve Carell wore a fake nose when he played John Du Pont in Foxcatcher. If you look at pics of the real life Du Pont, he had a large prominent nose.

Sorry not sorry, but this is NOT the same as "blackface". Folks need to stop geeze. Bradley is a Caucasian actor. Jewish people are considered Caucasian here too, I don't care what the deniers will say.

Bernstein had a big nose. If his family is ok with it, what's the problem?

Ironically many Vaudevillians who performed in Blackface we're Jewish (examples included Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson and the performers that did Amos & Andy on the radio, they appeared in the movie called Check And Double-check).

They didn't put the prosthetic on him to mock Jewish people, they put the prosthetic on him so he could look more like the person he is portraying the family doesn't even have a problem with it.

Cillian Murphy lost a lot of weight to look like Openheimer. I wonder if people that suffer from bulimia are offended?

"They" didn't mind disrespecting us when doing blackface -- none of them. Still haven't made it right.

The question is whether he wore a prosthetic nose to look more 'jewish' or to look more like the man he was playing?

Not seeing antisemitism here I'm afraid.

How is it unprofessional? It's super professional, movie makeup artists are damn good at what they do he looks nearly identical to the man he's meant to represent.

Just ridiculous!!! He looks just like Mr. Bernstein! I'm Sicilian-American and we have HUGE noses; lots of actors have worn such makeup to play Italians/Mobsters! I adore Leonard Bernstein and so look forward to his portrayal. Dear God! Further, it's not on Cooper - HE didn't create the makeup for the film!!! I think the makeup is brilliant.

The nose did look very different than Bernstein’s nose, so why did they bother with it? Bernstein’s chin and jawline was very different than Cooper’s so why didn’t they change that too?

They made em look more like Bernstein to me. I don’t see what all the hoopla is about.

It was obviously an attempt to make the appearance of the actor match the appearance of the subject. It wasn't, surely, intended to lampoon Jewish noses. If Bernstein had been bald would have been disrespectful to give Cooper a bald head? I've heard that Bernstein's family are in favour of the prosthethic, and - if so - everyone else should mind their own neurotic business.

Ok this is way over reaching !!! I have a big nose if someone made a movie about me and who ever portrayed me didnt have a big nose that would just be weird (not that anyone would make a movie about me). By the way im Mexican, a lot of mexicans have big noses, there is a song about it called El Tucanaso. Not offensive what so ever! People need to chill out !

Regarding Bradley Cooper playing John Merrick on Broadway...The Elephant Man is traditionally played on stage with no prostectics at all as an artistic choice. The film used them to great effect and John Hurt got an Oscar nom for his performance. Should they have gotten an actor with Merrick's condition?
