Photoshop: Remove white background and make it transparent

Remove the white background on your drawing and make it transparent, so you can paint it below the line. Note: For five years this video's music was Dragon Ball's Namek tune. But since I got a copyright infringement notice I had to change it. I'm sad. Very sad.

You can simply choose Select --> Color Range --> White --> Inverse -->Copy --> Paste --> Delete background....

delete original layer drawing
paint black-add a mask
ALT+ click on mask
edit, paste
image, adjustments, invert
click on layer
click on mask
delete mask

Go to select, then color range, and select the color you want to delete with the eyedropper select ok and delete it.

I managed to do this by copying an image into Microsoft word, saving it as a PDF, and then opening the PDF into Photoshop. The white background is automatically transparent. I was blown away. This opened so many avenues for me.

-Select, All
-Edit, Copy
-Create a new layer
- delete layer of original drawing
- paint all black
-add a mask
-press Alt, click on mask
- edit, paste
-image, adjustments, invert
- click on layer
- click on mask
-delete mask
- done!
-Brush teeth

For anyone watching that ended up with a transparent image: before you do everything else in the video, apply a brightness and contrast and crank the contrast. In my case, what I thought was black was really a slight gradient, so this made it work properly. In some instances it's required me to add max contrast, merge the layers, then repeat several times.
