This is exactly why I take it with a grain of salt when people talk about "benefit scroungers". Doing something like occasional paid babysitting can be enough to have someone legally branded as a someone who "doesn't need the benefits" coz "look, they're working!". Only 2.7% of people on benefits are considered not to need them, but even out of that 2.7% it wouldn't surprise me if many of them were in a similar situation to mandy here
