The polygraph measures autonomic system reactions--that's all. Things that distort autonomic reactions (increasing or decreasing autonomic activity) distort polygraph results.

What if you memorize your imaginative lie? You keep imagining your lie over and over, would it end up in the memory? and when someone asks you a question, you just remember the story that you originally imagined? I think it is possible.

So yes you can beat a lie detector test.. Train you brain to use a lot of energy when telling the truth. Or train your brain to use very little energy while lying.

Thus lying should be avoided to preserve those creative faculties of the brain for when they are truly needed. I'd bet self-deception is the most mentally exhausting form of dishonesty, because often the hardest person for us to fool is ourselves...but once we've done it...its hard for us believe that we've been fooled. Perhaps mental exhaustion should be viewed as either a nutritional problem...or one related to how honest you are being with others and yourself? :)

If polygraph tests are so unreliable results aren't admissible in court, why are they still used so much? Why are there still situations where people demand the accused take a polygraph test?

It's funny because being a lying expert actually makes you a bad liar by making people more conscious and scrupulous about your actions.

Sounds good but the polygraph is as good as flipping a coin. More of a stress detector than a lie detector.

You use more energy when you lie. Medical fact, u cant do any thin with that. Not a bad workout!!! (Well absolutly not often)

Maybe a method of lying to a polygraph would be understand what they're looking for, in this case, whether your brain is working harder; and start the test by taking the time to "imagine" an answer, to imitate the role of lying, therefore, if you happen to lie later on in the test, it will look the as when you told a truth.

Assuming this approach can detect spontaneous lying in which you fabricate something on the spot. What if someone think up all the details and store it in memory as if it is real before they are questioned?

The joker vs a lie detector test that would be interesting

I always feel like a lie detector wouldn't work on me because of how I think. Like if someone asks if I stole something sometimes I use my imagination to think of what could happen regardless if it's true or not.

I use my lies based on memory like a scene in a movie or something, so if you asked me if I robbed a bank I would give similar details to different movies and say it was me

This is the best top comment I have ever read in youtube. You are very funny and intelligent.

So do people with a bigger imagination tell better(believable) lies? Which in turn may not take as much energy to lie as someone with very little imagination?

I disagree with his premise

Complicated truths may exist where simple less energy dependant lies could easily be replaced.
