Originally released on the album Help Yourself, the single peaked at number six in the United Kingdom in October 1991 and topped the Australian ARIA Singles Chart for four weeks in March 1992. "Saltwater" was the 14th-highest-selling single of 1992 in Australia, where it is certified platinum.

I have had a real dud run lately with songs being blocked. What is even more annoying is that some of them came out so well that it's almost criminal that they will never hold the number one search ranking on Youtube, let alone even be seen by people. While doing a search for some info on this song, I was surprised to see that I had uploaded it before years ago. Boy, does this version smoke that version ! I am currently (and have been for the last week) downloading music videos in .vob format (the same format videos are on DVD's) so that I have them on hand to slowly remaster my singles collection, which is around 900 music videos. This one came out pretty good, I had a choice of 2 versions to download as a source file but one had writing on it, even though it was brighter than this one which was a bit dull by comparison. So I got this one, remastered it to 4K and gave it a slight boost in colour which really made a difference. A nice lossless Flac audio track replacement did the rest, and all up I am reasonably happy with the result. It's a nice song, and I love the "Beatlesque" guitar solo in it. A bit of info about that solo ( I am back to History teacher mode) :

"The recording features a lead guitar solo in the style of George Harrison. Lennon originally wrote a guitar solo for the song. At the suggestion of his producer Bob Ezrin, he then contacted Harrison to play the solo instead. Harrison was busy at the time consoling Eric Clapton whose son had recently died. He recorded a couple of riffs and sent them back to Lennon. Guitar player Steve Hunter then played the actual solo on the song, combining elements of both Lennon's and Harrison's solos. In the liner notes for the Help Yourself album, Harrison is given special thanks."
