This reminds me of Norman's depiction in the Ultimate comics, where he obsessed with the story of Arachne: a Greek legend of a mortal who made the gods jealous of their skill, eventually leading to the mortal being cursed to be a spider forever. In the comics he fancies himself as the mortal at first, before eventually transitioning into a vengeful god.
