WHY Gender Dysphoria isn't the same as Transgender

To anyone confused, Gender dysphoria can be experienced by cis people. Example is a cis woman who happens to be tall and have a more masculine body/face. They can feel dysphoric because their gender does not match up with their body properly. They're a woman but society might occasionally ends up referring to her as a man, which causes discomfort because of traits. A common form of this is men/boys with gynecomastia (men with breasts)

I don’t understand how there can be transexuals who didn’t have gender dysphoria. Why transition if there’s no dysphoria or negative symptoms that push them to? How are they separate? Transition therapy is a treatment, so how could one take a treatment without having the condition?

Can someone provide an answer to this?

This is like saying that a tall person may or may not have an elevated view of their surroundings. Technically true, but it’s very unlikely the tall person walks around hunched so as to “be shorter”.

gender dysphoria and transgender are different things, yes, because one is a state and the other is a being. and since they are distinct concepts, theoretically one can exist without the other. however, i would argue that to consciously identify as transgender, one must experience gender dysphoria to a degree. if you refer to the DSM-5 TR, experienced anxiety is not a diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria. prolonged (more than 6 months) incongruence between experienced gender and assigned gender + strong desire to be rid of assigned gender is sufficient for a gender dysphoria diagnosis. so in reality, the only people who can be transgender but not experience gender dysphoria are those who have not realised that they are transgender yet, because in order to actively identify as transgender, one must experience incongruence and desire to become their experienced gender. therefore, although they are technically different concepts, gender dysphoria and transgender overlaps completely in their constitution.

side note: while anxiety is not a diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria, it is the most common comorbid condition, along with mood disorders, trauma, etc. i think that’s where the misinformation came from.

I don’t really understand dysphoria or trans identity personally. I don’t push against it because truly to me, we are all just people and personally maybe I actually experience a sense of dysphoria but I know I’m a guy obviously and fine now. Up until I was 18 I like kinda started puberty but it almost just seemed like it stopped somehow. And after self research which is insane I basically found out what was wrong with me and it was embarrassing to bring it up to my mom but I actually have a pituitary tumor, a microprolactinoma. And it’s even more rare in guys. So basically it produces prolactin which is the hormone causing breasts/the milk to be produced 😅 and that hormone causes testosterone to drop so when I initially got tested my test level was literally like 6 ng/dl. It made me feel like less of a son and really affected me mentally. I’ve been on medication to lower the prolactin which has allowed my test levels to be normal and it’s just crazy how some may have hormonal issues and not even be aware of it and how that affects your moods and self image.

People without gender dysphoria should NOT transition. This is coming from a transexual girl whom transition thankfully worked out well. If you don't have gender dysphoria, you're going to regret transitioning sooner or later.

I think there needs to be a distinction between gender and sex dysphoria. Sex dysphoria is not feeling corporeal in your body. Gender dysphoria could mean so many things because people use the word gender to describe identity, stereotypes, or biological sex. I seriously think if you want hrt because you dont feel 100% man or woman but have no problem with your bodies sex characteristics you should seriously consider why you want it. I'm ftm but even i just feel like a person. I dont think cis men and women are walking around all the time thinking "wow i feel so much like my gender". Most people just feel like people. If being lgbt wasn't a big deal, I wouldn't think about it anymore than my eye color.

I think gender is a nebulous term and it seems more like personality/ temperament. There's too high of a correlation between people that identify with their sex, gender, gender expression and sexual proclivity for It to be independent. Having said that don't be rude to people. It's concerning we lack data because of how taboo the subject is. There isn't even data between the rise of gender confusion among kids and wide spread gender theory over the past decade. It's probably a memetic spread that disproportionately affects young women giving their high neuroticism levels. They can already experience body image issues and insecurities at a very young age adding this on top is ridiculous.Gender dysphoria is a medical condition and the definition of transgender is nebulous.

You're not assigned a gender at birth the doctor or who ever delivers the baby only informs the parents what the baby 's sex or gender is

How do you get assigned a gender at birth? Asking honestly. I thought there was simply an identifying of sex.

what does it mean to “identify as male”?
serious question and concern, isnt transgenderism just enforcing gender stereotypes instead of breaking them?
if you do not have gender dysphoria, why the hell would you need to transition or refer to yourself as trans? you can literally just be a masculine woman. IT IS NOT THAT HARD.

This guy confused the terms in a very convincing manner, not explaining but trying to settle a difference on very rare cases. Actually very stupid.

You just spewed out one huge contradiction doc.

Interesting observation. However, nobody is "assigned" their sex at birth. Use a different term.

I think everyone is just confused and if they felt better about themselves and had some good therapy they wouldn't feel like being a man when their a woman or vice versa. I also think alot of homosexuals do like to play the role of man or woman depending on how they relate in their romantic relationships. Just stop trying to force it down everyone's throat! It's amazing how in the past few years, all the sudden people think they should just get surgery to fix themselves, be happy with who you are period!

Do you distinguish between those with gender dysphoria and men who are transvesites or autogenephiliacs?
