Great review, two thumbs up on your coverage on the privacy concerns. I'm glad to see that those concerns are being brought up instead of being swept under the rug as Ring would very much like. As someone who works in software, I wouldn't use this camera simply because I don't trust Ring.

So I finished my two week test of this car cam. I had the same “to preserve the battery..” issues most everyone else is having. To confirm, a obd2 to cigarette lighter adapter does work with the B130x. Simply plug the ring male obd into the adapters female obd and the other end into the b130x cigarette barrel adapter and into the battery to get 12v. With it, you will get up to 18hrs of regular mode and 50hrs+ of parking mode with high sensitivity and high power usage. The adapter is $12. For example I can park it in a high traffic parking lot for 12 hours and the battery is still at 75% with several notifications. Do notification verification and lower the sensitivity and the battery said over 80hrs of runtime remaining on a full charge. There’s a ton of pros and cons with car cam. Not wanting to debate that (that’s why I keep saying car cam and not dash cam). This was not for capturing tag numbers while going 74mph down the freeway at night in the rain. I had my passenger window busted out while parked. If I had this installed, I would have potentially seen who it was. I haven’t seen many options for capturing the sides of my car in this scenario. The good news is that it appears ring is only taking 12V and ground from obd2. Not even acc power.

GoPro should've made a dashcam like 5 years ago, but they're probably too busy with another action cam that overheats in 15 minutes.

Update... After the full review was watched I want to say this dashcam has nothing to offer... No privacy, fees, subpar video quality, silly power requirements, heck it's on par with technology from 10 years ago...

Please do a video on cloud / LTE dash cameras. I believe live streaming and live alerts will be a high demand feature for most people.

The OBD connection is a NO-GO. As you said its not designed for permanent use and can lead to some pricey repairs.
The features are quite interesting if you are willing to pay a subscription, but with that piss poor camera quality its a hard pass anyway.
The same goes for the privacy stunts they pulled as you mentioned.
One can just hope that another dashcam provider copies some aspects while removing the flaws and offering a great alternative.

Thanks for your video. Made some stuff more clear, but also makes me kinda regret buying this thing... That said the "idea" of it was the best that I could find... I was looking at this device purely for it's security of the car and interior.

The only thing you didn't mention was the gps as in if the car gets stolen and you need to track where the car is. That said I can't get the geo fence to work and while it does have a feature for more than one address it seems you must "select" the address, it won't funtion for all the address you add...

The only thing I really like about this is the interior cam. I prefer it’s location as you can see very clearly out the sides. Eliminating the need for side cams like how Tesla’s have them. Everything else seems like it sucks.

This reminds me of the Owlcam from a few years ago, both in design and in video quality. My Owlcam lasted 3 weeks and wouldn’t function anymore because it overheated too many times when I left the car to go into a store. The wedge design would take up too much real estate on my Gladiator’s windshield though, so it’s a hard pass from me.

Very good review, too bad there are so many caveats with the Ring dash cam. The cloud repository is a good idea, but the fact that you can only get videos from the cloud is a big problem. This device is buggy and I am surprised Ring has released this with so many show stopper issues.
I'm very satisfied with the Viofo solutions and will stick by them.
