What Our Fatigue Reveals About Our Health - with Dr. Gundry | The Empowering Neurologist EP. 134

One of the most common complaints that people have today when visiting their doctors is that they're just tired out. Unfortunately, this is a complaint that doesn't readily lend itself to a quick pharmaceutical remediation. Unlike, for example, elevated blood pressure, there's nothing that can really be measured as it relates to feeling fatigued and therefore it makes it challenging for healthcare providers to fully address.

In Dr. Steven Gundry's new book, The Energy Paradox, he makes it very clear that fatigue emanates from compromised function of our mitochondria, the energy producers within our cells. So much of what goes on in our lives these days threatens the function of our mitochondria and therefore directly relates to our feelings of generalized fatigue. A key mechanism that he explores deeply on the podcast is the mechanism of inflammation. As most of you will recognize, what goes on in the gut plays a prominent role in regulating the set-point of inflammation in the human body, and therefore has a direct bearing on our energy levels.

Steven Gundry, MD is one of the world’s top cardiothoracic surgeons and a pioneer in nutrition, as well as medical director at The International Heart and Lung Institute Center for Restorative Medicine. He has spent the last two decades studying the microbiome and now helps patients use diet and nutrition as a key form of treatment. He is the author of many New York Times bestselling books including The Plant Paradox, The Plant Paradox Cookbook, and The Longevity Paradox: How to Die Young at a Ripe Old Age, and released his most recent book, The Energy Paradox: What to Do When Your Get-Up-and-Go Has Got Up and Gone, on March 16, 2021. He also is the founder of GundryMD, a line of wellness products and supplements.

Twenty years ago, Dr. Gundry decided to prevent health issues. He retired as a cardiologist to teach patients how to eat, guiding them on how to get ahead of the problem, not fixing it after the fact. He shifted towards a more proactive approach to health through food and diet changes. At his waitlist-only clinics in California, Dr. Gundry has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, diabetes, leaky gut syndrome, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases with a protocol that detoxes the cells, repairs the gut, and nourishes the body. He is also host of The Dr. Gundry Podcast.

Dr. Perlmatter and Dr. Gundry, I praise and applaud your efforts to disseminate and popularize your expert knowledge in Bioenergetics. Thank you for raising public awareness about our nutrition and educating us to take care of our health. All the best to both.

Dr. Steven Gundry confirmed what Dr. Lustig said in a previous episode about insulin, gut bacteria etc. If you like this episode then I would recommend Dr. Lustig episode as well.

Very interesting and thank you for bringing such informative material to us.
The viewing figures should have at least 6 zeros on the end.
The consuming public need to be educated and pressure the food producers to stop selling us this complete toxic garbage.

55:40 A friend of mine, who is a decent diver btw, almost died this way after suddenly having lost control over his body literally 10 meters from the shore, because his brain was lacking blood floor which was all in his guts after heavy lunch! He would definitely sink if not another friend who pulled him ashore. So your mothers and my grannies were totally correct on this! Amazing discussion btw, thanks a lot!

It was Prof. Villareal head of virology research at UC Riverside who moved me with his experimental evidence that viruses actually program behavior. Unfortunately I have seen no references to his work since around 2018. So this cross communication between the microbiom and mitochondria make perfect sense to me.

My grandmother who is from rural India owned vast agricultural lands back in the day. On one of the farms, in another state, they grew peanuts. However, no one in the house was allowed to eat peanuts. Those were for sale to other states to make peanut oil. Peanuts were considered toxic and no one was allowed to eat them, she recalls.

I’ve been working with millennials for about three years. We had five boomers retire from my small department and they were replaced with millennials. This video has helped me deal with the lack of energy and drive they bring to the workplace. It has been upsetting because the workload has fallen on me and they don’t seem to care. I think they don’t have the energy to care.

Decades ago I learned this from Dr. William Davis, another cardiologist.

I DID enjoy the podcast today. I think understanding the whole fructose-uric acid-metabolic syndrome complex is probably the key I need to help me restore my quality of life after several years of immune compromise....

Dr. Gundry. I remember clearly those days of peanut and jelly not one allergy then it all started in the mid 1970s. Something must have changed big time but what? I think it is chemicals in the food, water and even air. As in antibiotics estrogens and other long term toxins not identified as toxic. After decades of fighting I am still learning...
