NVMe and SD card boot test with latest bootloader. Orange Pi 5

It wasn't too clear what to expect after enabling NVMe boot. Apart from two Android based os which wouldn’t boot from sd card when an NVMe drive was attached. All other operating systems prioritise sd card boot.

Glad you did this video. I have just put my OP5 in a heatsink case that was very fiddly to put together and I don't want to remove the nvme to try a different OS. Thanks

My results are different. ANYTHING on the SD *if imaged correctly* and the SPIFlash boot loader is correct (I've been re-imaging it directly either will gnome's DiskImageWriter or RPi Imager, direct to the mtblock device) takes precedence to the TF/SD. (For Once) The manual even points this out explicitly :)

Internally/one the *NVMe SSD* I have, RebornOS boots into Gnome. With this setup, I can boot different "tests" from SD cards (the way they are created with that tool seems to affect if or not there is a conflict with the NVMe, I believe. More testing is needed there)

This is how I install an NVMe mounting spacer. I use two identical M.2 (metric 2mm) spacers each with a screw stem on the other side of the screw hole. The spacer (not including the screw stem) is 2.5mm in height but with a ring at the top around the screw hole. The total height (spacer + ring) is 3.1mm. The screw stem of the second spacer is cut out with a hacksaw to make it a screw nut. You would need a vice to hold the spacer for cutting. The result is great in my opinion.

I have debian operating system installed on orange pi 5 nvme disk. What should I do so that the Orange pi 5 can boot from the sd card when I insert the sd card and boot again from the nvme disk when I remove it?

in the manual for Orange Pi 5 it is described WHY it will conflict when you have both in. There is no magic there. Also it is described which script to run to resolve this conflict.

I enjoyed all your videos on the Orange Pi 5. I would love to see a video comparing Armbian vs the Orange PI versions of Debian and Ubuntu for BENCHMARKS COMPARISONS and overall support for the board.

Man, booting from nvme was a mistake. I can't get it to boot from an SD card now.

Mine does not boot from sd card only fydeos
I am not sure what I did differently on the flash to nvme command, and I am not sure how to remove the os from the nvme without an external tool to USB for the nvme; does anyone have any experiences like this?! if it did the dual boot like your did, I'd be happy; I just enabled Linux environment in fyde os to see if I can get in to adjust the priority manually as the comments said

@leepspvideo Where did you get your microsd card holders? Is there a way that you keep track of the contents of each?

I cant get it to boot off of anything but bookworm on the nvm. The android 12 wont boot even with the nvme removed. I think i have a bad sd card because gparted doesnt recognize the partition. Im going to go to walmart and officedepot to find a good sdcard. I want to use android to do my research instead of debian.

Can't get Orange Pi Android to rotate into portait mode.
Hi,
I've tried the settings and many rotation apps but nothing could get it to rotate into portrait mode.
The only option left is with a portable monitor which I don't have.
Can you please confirm if there's no way to get this basic function to work?
Thank you.

I haven't tried booting from my NVMe drive yet but was waiting to see some results. Thanks for the info. I am running Armbian on the SD now and it seems rock solid so far. Really not sure if I run it from the NVMe would it be much faster?

You say that you have updated the bootloader. Is there a specific source for this that P 5 users should be heading to?

I've seen in advanced settings in rasberrypi-config(?) A boot order so you can set config to seek card first...like the old bios bootloader.🤗, jpk
