21 Jump Street Changed Everything for Channing Tatum

Prior to his breakout performance in 21 Jump Street, Channing Tatum was seen by most as just "generic handsome guy". Teaming up with Jonah Hill, Christoper Miller, and Phil Lord, finally gave audiences a chance to see Channing Tatum's as more than a rom com hear throb. 21 Jump Street let Tatum show off his acting chops, and even landed him future roles with some of hollywoods biggest directors. Without 21 Jump Street we may have never seen what Channing Tatum could do.

I legit think that 21 and 22 jump street are some of the best comedies of the last decade, and apart of being just good fun, i think they both hide a really cool message about rising above your own expectations and stereotypes, and people being always more than meets the eye. Truly two of my favorite movies of all time.

I like how they good naturedly poked fun at the ridiculous premise, with Hill's nerdy character thriving in the 2010's, while Tatum's bullying ways don't hold up.

This movie and the sequel aged so well and were genuinely hilarious.

Jonah hill had the complete opposite happen with him ironically enough just before 21 Jump Street, he was the generic funny chubby guy, and Hollywood didn't realize how good he could be in a more dramatic setting until he was in Moneyball and nominated for an academy award for best supporting actor

Man, I want more video essays like this, breaking down how one role changed an actor's career trajectory.

Afriend of mine’s parents are very close with his parents, and everything I’ve heard about him has been glowing! He is still really close to his parents, and whenever they’ve seen Channing, since he got famous, they said he was always very grounded and kind. I know some people don’t care about the artist, and only care about the art, but I like when actors are also good people too.

Channing is fearless in the roles he takes. Never comes off as trying too hard, has a way of making you connect to the characters.

Tatum was also great in both Dog and Lucky Logan, too. He's an understated actor who's a lot more versatile than just "generic handsome guy".

He’s one of those actors that I think might actually be as good of a person as his image conveys. He seems like a genuinely good guy.

No lie... that part where you have Tatum say "My name is Jeff...." sent me into a bout of laughter 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣... I can NOT stop laughing at that! Dude is comedy gold at everything...

I feel like there are not a ton of comedies that came out in this time that are re-watchable as much as these are.

Went to see Free Guy at the theater and thought it was a pretty mediocre movie but actually laughed out loud at Tatum's scene and felt happy to see him because it felt like it had been a long time since I had seen him in anything, hope he continues to do well.

His cameo in “Bullet Train” was masterful. 😂

When you said: _"Tatum owes much of his success to Hill, Lord, and Miller."_ I think it might have been worth pointing out that Channing, himself, largely credits his success in Hollywood to Amanda Bynes [who fought hard for his casting, opposite herself, in what became his breakout role in "She's The Man"]

I remember being introduced to Channing in "She's the Man"
I thought his character Duke was low-key hilarious, the "Do you like Cheese?" line still cracks me up, and then when Channing whips that guy in the head with a towel, perfect! 😅

I'll always remember the "my name is Jeff" bit, and it never fails to make me either laugh or smile when I randomly remember it

As someone who wrote Tatum off as a talentless himbo years ago, I'm so happy and glad to say I was wrong. Dude is a legend. His comedic timing is amazing, he can act his ass off and movies like this and Dog prove he's a legend in the making.

I loved Tatum in 21-2JS. And his performance in both movies.
