An off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot has been arrested and accused of attempted murder, among other charges, after allegedly trying to shut off the engines on a plane bound for San Francisco.

Joseph David Emerson is being held without bail, after being booked on 167 charges, including 83 related to attempted murder.

LiveNOW's Andrew Craft spoke more about the off-duty pilot with FOX 2 Bay Area reporter Brooks Jarosz.

Investigators may examine:

1. the cockpit voice recording to determine if the exact nature of the exchange between the crew, prior the incident, to determine if any argument or exchange may be evident.

2. Mr. Emerson's relationship with the crew, or his employer the airline to discern whether any sub optimal conditions were prevalent.

3. the passenger list, to determine if any VIPs or persons of particular interest, political, military, industry, financial or otherwise were on board the aircraft.

4. a brief enquiry, to ascertain why Mr. Emerson is pictured wearing a Russian air force cap.

5. Any prior medical history, or medical treatment including prescription medication or drug use, on the part of Mr. Emerson.

6. Any evidence of financial or personal trouble in the private life of Mr. Emerson.

7. Given that all persons involved in the incident are currently living, the investigation stands a good chance of getting to the bottom of what happened.

1-7 above are, of course, depending on the story being accurate and true, as reported.

"A mid-flight misunderstanding..."???? Do these reporters actually look over their scripts before reporting them on air? A certified pilot attempting to cut the engines mid-flight knows EXACTLY what they are doing. I hope he's put away for a time. 83 counts of attempted murder is absolutely the correct charge.
