"Fans" of Avatar The Last Airbender always make the complaint of how Katara constant brings her mother up into the conversation. At this point it's more of a meme but let's go over why it's not as ridiculous as people make it seem.

Not to mention that even though she had her trauma of losing her mother, she still went out of her way to carry the entirety of Team Avatar when they were lost in the desert. In fact, she feels like not just the mother figure, but also the actual silent leader of the group. Her ability to play along is also incredibly strong.

Gee, it's almost like a child of a world war who is tramatized by the events that literally happened in front of her might have profoundly shaped the child's overall life! Seriously, she has plenty more going on with her as a character that shows she is more than a one-dimensional character.

Love your subversion of expectations on the video. XP

The idea that Katara, a 14 year old girl, shouldn't or wouldn't bring up her mom who died - in the midst of the war which killed her - is insane. Katara is one of the best show characters I've ever seen.

If Katara bringing up her mom was annoying, let's talk about how Zuko spending 2 and a half seasons unable to make up his mind was annoying.

End of story. katara brings up her mother alot

And every single one of those times, it usually deals with someone who went through a a similar exoerience, speaking about the necklace itself or a specific event that dealt with her mother

Maybe it’s because I wasn’t really a part of the avatar fanbase before. But I swear this whole shit about how she brings up her mother too much only began on tiktok when avatar blew up again and ppl just kinda bandwagoned and took it to the extreme, which was all bs. Every time she brought up her mother, it made perfect sense. Ppl just look stupid when they complain about this.

The only time I was bothered by Katara was her hostility to Zuko. And that ended up completely making sense anyway.

BRUH I watched the show like 10 times and I can barely remember any moments besides like 5 times in a span of 4 seasons when she brought up about her mother 😅

The unfortunate reality of children who lose a parent at a young age is that they have to learn their life lessons in retrospect by remembering them as they were bc they're not there to comfort or teach them now.

I don't see any positive comments and I think that for a video that was only a minute and twenty seconds you put a lot of effort into this.

I think part of the community's problem with Katara is that she is one of the few examples (That's still brought up currently) that truly represents a "strong female" character. In a lot of media you see most female characters on one of two sides of a spectrum. The really empathetic friend that while is emotionally talented has no backbone and has to rely on others to help her fight the physical battles. While on the other side we get all of these kickass girls who show no emotion *cough* *cough* Carol Danvers *cough* and show no emotional vulnerability. Katara is the most perfect medium I've seen for these two character traits. She has a mothering side and cares very deeply for others, but she is also very much on the same level as everyone else in the squad in terms of bending and fighting abilities. They don't call her Master Katara for nothing.

This perceived "disconnect" is what makes a lot of fans miffed that since Katara is pretty much the main female character (I'm only saying that because overall she is the female character that gets the most screen time) she shows so much more emotional vulnerability than the other characters. Of course the Gaang have their moments. Aang shows a lot of weakness and inner sorrow over the loss of his culture and people, but he's also still a kid. And up until the end not as emotionally mature and realized as Katara. Sokka is Sokka. I love how he wants to live up to his Dad and his arc to become a true warrior and hero but it's not hugely emotional the way Katara's slow acceptance of her mother's passing is. Toph is closer to what I was talking about; a kickass female character but she is leagues ahead of anything Marvel or DC could comprehend writing. Her greatest weakness is her greatest strength, and she eventually opens up because of Katara's mothering and has her own growth. Also, she's Toph. Enough said. Suki is another good example of both badass and capable of showing empathy (She doesn't hesitate when she sees Appa injured), but she doesn't have enough screen time for the casual ATLA enjoyer to latch onto. And there's Zuko. The awkward turtleduck who has the most epic character realization in the history of character development.

Katara is just the Empathy guru for a bunch of traumatized kids. Excellent work on the video, you've earned yourself a subscriber <3

I guess i don't exist anymore 😞 yes I hate her, but why?no reason. I hate a lot of characters for no reason and it's not crime to hate one.

If all you remember about katara is her bringing up her mother a lot then you didn’t watch the show; you just saw what was being said about her and ran with it because Katara is way more complex….
1. She was The Painted Lady that helped the village against the fire nation
2. She battled Paku and got him to change his narrow minded and sexist ways
3. She always comforted Aang whenever he went into the Avatar State
4. When all hope was lost while Gaang was stuck in the desert Katara remained hopeful and got them out
5. She healed Aang with spirit water when he was attacked by Azula
6. She whopped Azula’s ass everytime and so much more! But sure Katara does nothing but bring up her mother

"You didn't love her the way I did."

she said that to her BROTHER. like, she makes everything about herself. Aang's entire NATION died, INCLUDING his parents. Yet Aang isnt always crybabying about how his parents died

Honestly, thats a lot. Season 1 felt the most guilty of it but, to me, season 2 onward it wasnt that bad.
