Comparing the SPIKE prime kit to the EV3 set

Recently, I led a LEGO robotics camp at a local coding academy, and I was able to borrow their SPIKE prime kit to play with over the weekend. So in this video, I give an overview of the SPIKE prime kit, and talk about why teams should switch to the kit, or stay with their ev3 sets.

as seone who's learned scratch programming, I see this as a total win

Thanks for your very thorough comparison of the EV3 and the Spike Prime systems.

Depending on the situation, the Spike Prime's compact size can be an advantage or a disadvantage. A team I work with found that the lower weight of the Spike Prime brick meant that they had trouble getting sufficient traction for pushing heavier objects.

For more advanced programmers writing complex programs with multiple loops, loops within loops and other complex structures, the screen of the EV3 and older NXT can provide a lot of diagnostic data to aid in troubleshooting that would be difficult to do with the Spike Prime.

As someone who got to build with EV3 and NXT 2.0, even in competitive environment, I am sad to see it go.

I have been wanting the EV3 or the older NXT's ever since I was a kid and I remember seeing the NXT box in Toysrus but I couldn't afford it. No9w I am grown up, it is still expensive going around 1.4k where the SPIKE is around 700.

As someone who has been using spike prime for a while now, I can comfirm that EV3 is the best option ever. Although the spike prime does have a built in gyro sensor, it is extremely inaccurate and inefficient, resulting in inconsistent results. But the worst thing about the spike prime is the tires. They collect dust EXTREMELY easily and cause them to slip. In fact even if they’re clean, the wheels tend to slip a ton because the slippery surface of the mission mat. My team had no choice but to set the speed very slow so that it was consistent. We later found a solution that if you were to replace the spike tires with the EV3 tires, it wouldn’t slip. But even then, we couldn’t get our hands on a EV3 kit. Because of this, I feel like newer teams should keep in mind that the spike may seem better, but overall my team preferred the EV3.

Great video. With Mindstorm being killed I'm thinking of getting Spike Prime 45678. I have a few questions if you don't mind. 1) Can I use C# programming language with it. 2) Are there adapters to use Power Functions motors with it? Thanks.

Spike Prime is my favorite because I don't know how to program with Lego Education EV3. Wonder if them

I’ll show them program you showed for there is either the same or a similar program that uses the exact same kind of coding that you can also use for Ev3r so all the things about coding are incorrect
