It is Impossible to Tell If Anything is Good or Bad - Alan Watts

The Story of the Chinese Farmer told by Alan Watts. Many things happen in life they may seem terrible in the moment. You lost your job, you got dumped, you didn't get into the right school, etc. However, later on that event, which seemed so bad, turned out to change your life course and lead you to something positive. It is impossible to tell if anything that happens is "good" or "bad". They key is to flow like water through rocks. Be adaptive, especially to events that are outside of your control. Don't get hung up on any one thing. Many of the most successful people credit their lowest failures for their ultimate success. Sometimes it takes a very negative event to push us to make a positive change.

I dreamed for many years of owning a van to live and travel in. Finally I found a job, saved up, bought an old mercedes van, fixed it up, and it was stolen within 2 days of getting it insured and on the road. But when people commiserate, I say that perhaps this has saved me from a nasty, possibly fatal accident 6 months down the road. You just can't know. You had to turn left when you wanted to turn right? In the end, it doesn't matter, just as long as you're still rolling along :-)
