How Freefall Lifeboats Work

Freefall lifeboats work by releasing from a height during emergencies. They drop, hit the water, and use their sharp front to reduce impact forces.

If you have ever worked offshore you enjoyed the STCW and this training, a piece of cake compared with the work itself.

They’re also built like a submarine, can flip over and self-right itself, and can handle extreme weather conditions because of it…

Making the drop "smoother" is a relative term 💀😂

First drop did reduce the G force with a somersault. Neck wrecking indeed !!

We had them on drilling platforms in the late 1970s, have been in them for evacuating training but never took the plunge

Early design was a push lever release.
2 people I know were inside one of these doing maintenance when one of them accidentally knocked the lever.
They were both seriously injured.
Hence the changes to design where it's a pump handle release.

Broken bones are one hell of a lot better than downing in a sinking ship

My fear of heights and drowning kicked in while watching.

"These life boats are designed with a sharp front." The first lifeboat is totally thinking outside of the box. 😅😊

The guy that forgets to shut the door gets the job of shark distracter! They distract the sharks, while the helicopter pulls the rest of us out of the boat/water!😂😂😮😮

What they don’t tell you will have serious neck and back injuries and also quite possibly have two broken legs. They never show the rest of the seats in the boat. For which are very small. They are not meant for people weighting over 250#. I’m 6’3” and at the time weighing in at 300#. I could barely get into the set and strap in.
