Gretsch Electromatic Jet g5220 Review and Demo. Dark cherry metallic finish. Dual Broad'tron humbuckers. Incredible value for this guitar. Using a Fender 59 Reissue Bassman, One Control Prussian Blue Reverb and DCW Pedals Tradition Overdrive.

The Gretsch Electromatic Jet solid body guitar is an excellent starting point to getting into the Gretsch sound. It has more twang and bite than a Gibson Les Paul, but more girth and midrange than a Fender Telecaster.

I own this same guitar, and Iove the crunch overtones it gets for my Original Hard Rock music... A versatile guitar that plays, sounds, and looks like a much more expensive instrument.

I went to a local pawn shop last week just to see what they had. I wasn't looking for a Gretsch, but this exact guitar was on the wall in there, and I walked out with it. Absolutely love it. It's got sustain for days and is insanely versatile. I can't believe how great this guitar sounds and plays. It's fantastic

Great review! I use predominantly clean tones so it is great to hear someone playing mostly clean in a review. Awesome playing too

Wow, each note is so well separated from the other notes. Very detailed.

This was a Christmas gift to myself and the fit, finish, setup, neck profile and raspy growl are fantastic for the money. Also was perfect colour for fitting in with the Festive decorations!

Excellent review. No talking or specs. Just tones, clean and with gain which is exactly what I was looking for. Nice chops btw!

When I'm interested in a guitar and I see you've done a review, I'm instantly happy because I know I'll get a review that makes sense to me and aligns with what I see and hear as well. Thank you:)

I played two of these at my local shop. I love really low action and was absolutely shocked when I checked and they both were at 1.5mm high E and just under 2mm low E from the factory..ya, there was minimal fret buzz on the e a and d strings, but I can tell it would take a tiny bit of raising the strings to get rid of the fret buzz. And no fret buzz on the g b or e strings. Yes, I bring a 6" steel ruler with me, I swear! And now that I see Jack approves of these guitars, I'm going to go grab the gold top one! I'll make a video and post asap.

Awesome review. Refreshing to watch a video that highlights this guitar and it's tones instead of "How much distortion can I use". Thanks

That's the best sounding TS circuit I've heard in a while. Great playing, great review. Thanks.

I like your review sir. I almost bought this model, but then Gretsch released the G5222 Double Jet. (Double Cut) Bought one immediately, and love it! I can't stress enough how much they punch above they're price point. It's up there with my Gibson Les Paul Standard, just different tone and vibe. (And I occasionally run high gain thru it, it handles it perfectly) Great work dude!

Great review! I just got one G5220 and I'm super psyched about it, and your review was one of the tiebreakers to make my decision! Cheers!

I paid $450 for my G5220 Casino Gold. The finish is absolutely beautiful, main reason i bought it. I play very loud, and the factory pickups/electronics are just not up to snuff. Tone circuit is quite noisy and had to be replaced. I opted for the Setzer hotrod type setup (simple circuit) and when doing this, the guitar got very dark when using regular hot PAF type pick ups. Had to ad treble bleed caps to compensate. All pots were replaced w high quality CTS and a Bourns low friction pot for the bridge pup. Master pot was bypassed.
Guitar also needed a fret level.
All in all, the $450 guitar turned into around a $900 project fairly quickly, however it is a tone monster now... ;-) Best LP Ive owned...
I believe these are being built at the Epi factory in China.

Picked up a red G5220 at Cream City in Milwaukee. The red color is gorgeous. I am very impressed with the pickups. They do it all (for my taste)! In particular I like that the neck pickup doesn’t sound dark or wooly. It sounds open and clear. IMHO I think this is a great addition to anyone’s collection. I’m having a professional setup at Chicago Fretworks which includes leveling the frets. I like low action. When I lowered the bridge. The high E string fretted out bad when bending at positions 5-7 and a couple of the higher positions. I had this done with my new Fender Player Series HSH because the High E was catching in the nut slot. I had them replace the nut with a bone nut and level the frets etc. I highly recommend the G5220. The BT pickups don’t have that total classic Gretsch FT tone but it still sounds like a Gretsch. if you don’t need a Bigsby and like to get the most out of your dirt pedals without sacrificing excellent clean tones these BT pickups should satisfy.

Considering this one to add a bigsby as I did with my G2210 that actually needed some other upgrades too but ended up sounding and looking fantastic and this one already sounds fantastic. Great review man!
