I’m a Toyota technician. I literally jumped for joy when I read the update sent to us. This is the best, most expedient way to minimize come-backs, and quickly fix the issue. Good on Toyota for taking their lumps and coming up with a quality solution!

Imagine having 2022 tundra with over 100k mile and you get new engine for free some people are really lucky

I can't think of a single person who would turn down a brand new engine over a flawed engine.

I own a 22 Tundra. It's been a great truck. When I purchased it, I planned on having it for many years. When the announcement was made back in May, I was rethinking of keeping it. Now, with the news that Toyota is willing to put in a new engine, I would keep the truck.

Good for Toyota. That’s how you fix a f$ck up. Take ownership and fix it.

This is what needed to happen to restore faith. And also not kill the techs . Good call Toyota

What’s crazy? Is my dad is friends with a direct designer of the engine and noted problems in it’s development that were still never corrected. Apparently, even employees complained about milling problems, and other nuances that continue to fall on deaf ears.

This engine failure happened to my coworker about a month ago. He was towing a trailer out of state and the engine lost oil pressure and died. Toyota was replacing his engine in the truck and gave him a loaner truck to get home with his trailer.

At least $1B will be claimed. Saw a mechanic channel say that failures he saw were main bearing failures. Trash circulating in rest of engine which would cause random bearnings to fail, like cam bearings. He also said that mains bearing part numbers changed, but not all caps. Implies that there is product fault. The engine swap is the best result. Now if other auto manufacturers would do that level of warranty for the DFM lifter failures.

The best solution would be to put the 5.7 v8 back in the trucks.

Who wants to have an engine torn out of their truck and replaced. The dealerships are going to mess this up and then ur going to have all kinds of problems from things that are missed during the installation process.

Glad Toyota is doing the recall. Also glad I went with the '22 Coyote so I don't have to deal with it. Wish Ford would stand behind their products like Toyota though.

Until today, I wanted to replace my '16 Taco with a Tundra. It's good that Toyota backs their product however I would expect better for what they charge.

Land Cruiser 300 (made in Japan) has the same problem here in Kazakhstan. But Toyota recalls it for engine repairs; they don’t want to change the engine.
I don’t want to keep it and try to sell it back to Toyota.

I like how you think Toyota "chose" to do the right thing. The NHTSA is forcing them to fix it because it's a safety concern. The thing Toyota is choosing to do is replace the engine instead of rebuild which is honestly probably cheaper.

How much will it cost Toyota to replace an engine? Multiply that by 100K. $1.5B, $2B? That's huge.

I have a 23 Tundra that is part of this recall. I’m glad Toyota is doing the right thing. I know it will take time to get these engines replaced. Hopefully I won’t have an issue before that happens. This move does give me more confidence in the Toyota brand.

That truck has to be totally took apart, who says it will be put back right. Sure they will have trained teams. 2000 per state avg. Hell that's a lot. Hybirds will have to be included.
