My english professor worked as an english teacher in Japan. He once offered his students extra credit if they went around the local area, translated the vending machines, and described what the products were. He understood basic japanese, but could only survive living there thanks to his wife. His colleagues envied his genius

It’s so nice to see a ginger in the wild thriving amongst the ferocious citizenry. You’re an example to so many other gingers lol I kid of course. I enjoy watching your stories and living vicariously through your example. Thank you young lady. You’re doing a great job.

I appreciate the recognition of the hard work that teachers do. They play a vital role in shaping our future.

Try felted wool shoe inserts in your slippers. It's life changing and you'll never go back to the heat up kind.

I’m currently getting a minor in Japanese and I want to get a certificate in translation. So if anything, I can be a teacher 😅
Edit: I am realizing my wording was terrible. 💀 A “minor in Japanese” is not a human. It is a smaller area of study tacked onto my major in college

For future teacher looking to work abroad.
1. China- pays low but living costs are also low.
(your experience working in China isn't going to be accepted elsewhere tho)
2. Korea- pay is highest amongst the east asian countries but living cost is somewhat higher.
(If you live frugally you can still save quite a bit)
3. Japan- pay is low but living cost is manageable. (can't save much tho)
4. Saudi Arabia- pay is amazing, living cost is pretty good. (Can save a lot) however, I can't say life will be easy for females there.

I've been told by a Canadian friend who went to Japan to teach English that it's basically the equivalent to working any federal minimum wage job in the US, expected to work overtime every week, then pay all your bills on time with zero complaints.

Needless to say it's a struggle and a soul-crushing grind all in hopes that some private school will notice you and pay you a living wage.
