I learned so much from you the past few months! Just spent 2.5 weeks in Scandinavian countries, temps ranged from high 50s to low 80s, we were doing both cities and serious hiking. I made sure everything could be layered and was multipurpose, and got it all in a carryon plus backpack personal item. The only rule I broke was bringing 5 pairs of shoes! (But hey, I had room so why not?) Thanks Laurie!

I only pack shoes if I'm going to check a bag and the majority of time I only wear one pair of shoes the entire trip unless I'm going hiking in which I need my hiking shoes and other hiking equipment in that case I pack them in my checked bag. Carry on luggage space is very valuable so I do not use it for bulky items.
If I do pack an extra pair of shoes they're usually smaller shoes, and I packed them in my personal item bag which is a backpack.
