Be careful not to store crumpled cloth or paper with the boiled linseed oil on the cloth/paper. This can spontaneously combust from the exothermic reaction of the linseed oil causing the cloth to ignite.

My favorite way to add grip is to get some 10 gauge wire and wrap it down as a spiral and cover it either self-sticking wrap, ball bat wrapping and electrical tape. You can move the spiral to fit your fingers. Absolute best way that I found.
