Ballistol is not a better version of WD-40. WD-40 is for cleaning, Ballistol is for oiling. WD-40 actually get's rid of oil and is not made for lubrication or rust prevention. A lot of people still don't seem to know this and actually "oil" stuff with WD-40.

BE VERY Ballistol is a copper solvent. It can and will eat away at and corrode any metal with copper on/in it. Brass, bronze, anything. Ballistol is a great product, you just gotta know it's limitations and characteristics.

You can use it for treating wood and leather too. Ballistol is a German Invention originally intended for anything for soldiers guns. It was also used for treating wounds as it consisted of medical alcohol (70 % Isopropanol) and fish oil.

The spray version works great for water proofing leather. I use it on my work boots regularly.

Only thing I put on my guns. Great for corrosive ammo. Put some in a pesticide sprayer with water and you’ve got a solvent that will wash away the corrosive salts. Spray, use a traditional solvent (gun scrubber) to dry out the nooks and crannies, relube with uncut ballistal.

I retired a couple of years ago from being a career firefighter. Ballistol is the only thing that I would ever use on my personal set of irons, our vent saws, extrication tools etc. Still use it today.

Absolutely love ballistol for that reason, and keep a wet microfiber towel of it in the shop at all times. Great on steel, great on leather, too 👌🏻

Aerokroil is a favorite for some similar uses at our house.

It mixes well with water, too, great for spraying down and cleaning blackpowder arms. The water evaporates after neutralizing the powder, leaving a nice ballistol film.
