How Do Sidekicks Work in #dnd?

Sidekicks can take feats, the feats feature says when your class gives you an ASI you can "choose to forgo it" and pick a feat instead. Sidekicks are classes and they give ASI so they by RAW are eligible to take feats if your table is using them. You can do a ton of cool stuff with them

My sister's been playing a sidekick Jaculi in one of our campaigns. The dice have really been telling a story with her, because the amount of crits she's landed with that snake has made her the most feared member of our party lol

I love giving sidekicks to players as a DM, definitely ups the value of martial players

I played a classic beast master ranger but was allowed to give my beast sidekick levels. Leaned into my pc casting spells/support and my beast doing the attacking. Almost worth it.
