I know that this binding method was popularized by the Japanese in the west, but this binding method is Chinese in origin. Ppl are upset by the title. But as Chinese, we r happy to share our culture, and share was apart of our history anyway. there is definitely no need to fight over a binding method. Be respectful~ luving the world!

This tutorial was perfect for replacing some missing covers on an old textbook. I reused some old notebook covers and I tied it with hemp thread. It turnes out better and sturdier than I expected! Thank you for the tutorial!

Very clear instruction without any of the irrelevant "waffle" which characterises many of these "How-to" videos. Thank you.

So I'm taking a historic photographic processes class at SAIC and it was brought to my attention that even though it was popularized by the Japanese in the west this binding method is Chinese in origin still a great way to make photo books it looks great!!!

I literally just did this binding for a portfolio I'm making and it was so simply to do! I didn't have an awl or screw punch, so I used a push pin to score my holes then used the needle and hammered it through to make the holes big enough. Worked like a charm! Thank you so much for making this tutorial. It was a real life saver.

If you are using 4 holes then that's actually a Chinese binding. The traditional Chinese binding is 4, 8 or 11 holes. Japanese binding is 7 holes.

I don't have an awl, so I used a single hole punch instead. Works great for this type of binding. Thanks a million for the wonderful tutorial!

I watch a lot of period K-dramas and always wondered how they used to bind their books. Thanks, and especially thank you as I'm just starting to do junk journaling, and wanted to try a different binding then the usual kind.

That's a good way to bind single sheets. I may use it on a couple of my journals.

I'm about to get emotional, so bear with.

I have followed Jennifer for years now, and completed many of her projects. My first was a simple notebook, my second a book press, the third a coptic bound book which I covered, and now this.
I did stab binding for a book of my work. This is a poetry pamphlet that I'm handing in as my final ever assessment. After I hand it in to my lecturer in two hours, I will have officially finished university.
Thank you, Jennifer, for teaching me this method, and with all your other videos. Now I'm going to shower and get ready to go in for the last time...
