I have both of these cards(460 and this) and I use the 6790 for only Video Editing. I use my special baby (GTX 460 FTW) for Gaming. The 460 superbly outperforms the 6790 by a lot on 3D mark.

@naryanr They are shrinking down to 28nm which will be the reason for the big jump. It is rumoured that they will release the 7000 series in conjunction with Bulldozer (Zambezi) CPU's at E3 this year, which I believe is the 7th of June.

@EDKsurly I also got a 4890 and thinking about upgrading it to a 6950, as the power leap to 6970 is not that big but the price has a big gap. Comparing my 4890 to PCWizKidsTeckTalk 6950 review in GPU-Z it's most of the time dubble the power. Bandwith is about 20% diff, but transistors was more then 150% extra.

Nice, so I'm guessing this card as good OpenGL support?

AMD has come a long way, I was an Nvidia user for a long time and decided to give AMD a try with the 6950 2gb and its awsome. The only issue is that my motherboard only supports SLI :( . What do you guys thing keep the 6950 or buy another motherboard for Crossfire, just for future proof. Although the 6950 alone keeps up with everything I throw at it, my only problem is the CPU.

@maz12004
Funny thing is the reference 6790 is a castrated 6870 but smarter third party manufacturers like Powercolor used a 6850 pcb thus only requiring one 6-pin connector and is shorter than the reference model.

Why do you turn of automatic fan speed when you overclock? Isn't the software able to cool it down? Seems to me like it's a lot of extra noice without not much in return?

@ImSo5 personally, I feel this is meant for competing with the GTS 450 and the 550 ti rather than the GTX 460 and 560 ti. But those are just my two cents

@snowyseb You didn't mention a graphics card, if you don't have one, then get one ASAP. Be sure it'e compatible with your motherboard.

hey ive got a xfx hd radeon 6970 now and was looking to upgrade and run crossfire x with one or two more cards. do you think that this would be a wise choice to pair with that and a asus crosshair IV Extreme MB?

@MiPflappstern Yeah it should, by looking in specs. 6790 is 256bit card. 5700 series only 128bit.

do you think the 6970 2gb is good enough for it's price compared to the 6950 2gb? In other words, does the extra money worth to get the 6970 over the 6950? I own neither.

Hey :)
I was just wondering, I have about $200 Aus dollars to spend.
What can I get for that? should I upgrade my old Pc?

My old Pc specs:
Processor: AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 5000+ 2.60ghz
Ram: 2.00gbs
System type: 32-bit OS
Vista...

So what do you think? What should I upgrade?

Will this bottleneck with an AMD Phenom II X4 640, the one without the L3 cache? How about with an Athlon II X4? My first choice before was the 6850 but this is much cheaper and performs almost as well as the 6850 in terms of benchmarks.
