Finnish Air Force’s F/A-18 Solo Display at RIAT in 2019

Ilmavoimien F/A-18 Hornet-soolo palkittiin kahdella palkinnolla Royal International Air Tattoo -lentonäytöksessä Isossa-Britanniassa heinäkuussa 2019. Kapteeni Arto Uksosken lentämälle soololle annettiin lentonäytöksen parhaan yksittäisen esityslennon (Best Individual Flying Display) Sir Douglas Bader Trophy -palkinto. Ilmavoimien Hornet-soolo sai tunnustuksen toista kertaa peräkkäin, sillä viime vuonna palkinto myönnettiin kapteeni Lauri Mäkiselle. Lisäksi soolo sai RIAT-lentonäytöksen ystävien (Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo) parhaaksi arvioimalle suoritukselle (Best Overall Flying Demonstration) myönnettävän As The Crow Flies Trophy -palkinnon.

Capt Arto Ukskoski's award-winning F/A-18 Solo Display at RIAT in 2019

The Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Solo Display flown by Captain Arto Ukskoski was awarded with the Sir Douglas Bader Trophy for best individual flying display at the Royal International Air Tattoo in July 2019. This was the second year in a row, as Captain Lauri Mäkinen received the same trophy in 2018. In addition, Captain Ukskoski was awarded with the As The Crow Flies Trophy for the best overall flying demonstration as judged by the Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo.

The solo includes several high angle of attack manoeuvres - see the award-winning display from above and fly with Captain Ukskoski!

This pilot is a beast. He seemed immune to the excruciating g- accelerations all along the display. It was a really tough display on the body.
Well, having already watched the display from a ground camera getting to watch it from an in- cockpit camera was amazing. The footage talks volumes of its own. Nothing more to say other than hope to watch them display again in 2020 so that we manage to find out what they've got under the sleeve in order to stun us all again next year. Superb demonstration, outstanding vid, phenomenal performance.

When the Finns participated in Air Show events for the first time with a new F / A-18 Hornet fighter. Many pilots from other countries' air forces were said to have been amazed at the skillful way in which Finnish pilots fly in a variety of slow and fast situations in various challenging situations. It is said that the control and software of the aircraft's avionics were changed in Finland to be better than it was originally in the US Air Force. At the Alaska RED FLAG 2019, everyone praised the Finns as highly qualified and professional pilots. Great!

The legendary Capt. Arto Ukskoski in full display, this man was born to fly!! I've seen the ground video of his performance at RIAT, so this was thrilling to see the cockpit version this time around. The Finnish Air Force has set its place in precision aircraft flight. Kehua!!

I was there to watch the display on all days, it was a fantastic display well planned out and performed, and for me very photogenic. I hope to see the Finnish Defence Forces at RIAT again in 2020 :-)

Seen the performance on other videos. What a remarkable one! Never thought the legacy Hornet could pull off those kind of maneuvers, though I heard it had extreme nose authority. Hats off to the Finnish AF and the pilot!
