Actually most products advertised for black/brown hair/skin has been found to contain toxic ingredients. You need to do your own research because that's where you will get your answers. Don't expect someone else to find the answers and present them to you. Please take care of yourself. ❤

I had my first perm at 5 or 6 that was one of the worse decisions my parents ever made for me.
Let’s teach black women to use tools that give them life and health while taking care of their natural hair.
I will never go back to perms after more than 10 years.

I've read the scientific report and I have soooo many questions. Which ingredient(s? causes cancer? Is it formaldehyde? Or formaldehyde releasers (which btw are in all our body creams and shampoos). Which brands? Is there a direct link? It literally says they are 'unable to determine that the products directly cause the cancer'. So lazy and vague and scaremongering. Black women deserve better

Good god, I knew about fibroids but not CANCER! That's not acceptable, esp. considering how popular these straighteners are. They've linked the number of chemical burns on the scalp with the number/severity of fibroids and age at onset, so this definitely checks out. Fibroids are generally benign but they're also uterine growths that cause disability, lost productivity & the need 4 surgery in many cases. 70% of white women and 80% of Black women will have them by age 50 but I NEVER hear of white women getting them (I'm white) so I thought to look this up. It's the pthalates in the product combined with the burns that allow them to absorb systemically. There are other endocrine disruptors in them too. It's fine to use a product if it makes you *feel* good & is an informed choice, but it's pure evil to tell Black women that this is how to achieve the "professional" look & kick them out of the inner circle at school/work if they don't. 😔 Dress codes in general are sexist nightmares but this ain't that post.

The only straightening products I've been able to identify are KERATIN PRODUCTS AND NOT SODIUM HYDROXIDE RELAXERS as possible causes of cancer. Some of the do it yourself home relaxer kits may be identified as having potential cancer risks, no professional relaxers have been named.

Are there any relaxers that don’t cause cancer?

i'm Asian (not oriental Asian) I have a natural curly frizzy hair and I have been straightening it since I was 25 and now I'm 46. I go for hair relaxing treatment to get it straight. I think ok if I do it once a year.

Black hair is NOT fragile or delicate, so please stop spreading that lie. Please stop telling women that there is such a thing as protective styling. Your hair and scalp need exposure to air, sunlight, water, what exactly are you protecting your hair from? Go natural and learn to care for your natural hair.

The fact that 85% of the beauty industry is consumed by black women speaks to how gullible black women are in forcing themselves to fit into other people's beauty standards. Most of the beauty industry is not black owned and black women are dependent on companies that do not operate in their favor. The endocrine disruptors in most hair care products contribute to obesity, birth defects, cancers, and a myriad of health issues. The information exists and black women dismiss these facts and still insist upon using these products.

These relaxers should not be used at all. Any use of toxic chemicals isn’t safe. Saying to limit poisons is illogical.
