MAJOR SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 8.
Sorry that the subs are pretty terrible. This was the best bluray + MP4 format I could get.
Probably one of the most tragic scenes in PMMM. Also, the background song is called Decretum.
Sayaka-chan. ;_;

Sayaka's personality is one of the most realistic personalities I've seen in all of anime.

Almost nobody understood the real reason why Sayaka fell into despair...
She didn't fall into despair because Hitomi stole the guy she loved, It's just because Sayaka realised she didn't really make the wish for him but she wanted him to love her. When she realises that, she starts thinking she's as bad as the girls who only fight for the grief seeds. That's why she refuses the grief seeds, she thinks she doesn't deserve to live anymore ;-;

Sayaka's plot is one of the most underappreciated parts of the anime, and it's so unfair. One of the biggest plot twists of the show is the fact that magical girls become witches, and we actually get to see the entire journey from beginning to end through Sayaka .

if im recalling this correctly, eri kitamura (sayaka’s voice actress) said that she cried during the recording of this episode and it SHOWS with the amount of emotion in sayaka’s last words. this moment absolutely broke my heart.

I don't know why so many people hate Sayaka, Madoka Magica was a masterpiece and Homura might be great but without Sayaka this anime wouldn't be as amazing as it was, She showed the dark side of the Mahou Shoujo world much more deeply and planted very important ideas like This world really deserves to be saved? and along with Kyoko and Mami showed the 3 destinies a Mahou Shoujo has. She was irreplaceable.

My Favorite Magical Girl.

I love the contrast of Kyoko and Sayaka displayed in their magical girl costumes. Sayaka’s colors are blue and white, with a knightly motif, which are known to be selfless and uphold justice. Meanwhile Kyoko’s colors are red and black, with a pirate motif, someone who’s livelihood is to take for themselves

I think what people don't get is that what drove her nuts is not that she's supposedly so selfish, but that she demanded unreasonable standards of heroism & purity of herself & basically beat herself up over normal human feelings untill it pulverized her self-esteem.

There was never any sort of "karmic retribution for selfishness" in place at all; Kyubey's deal was a con to begin with; The only ways to win are not to play or to find a loophole, like Madoka did ("I said EVERY witch.")

Sayaka Miki’s 5 Stages of Grief

Denial - “There’s no way I’ll ever regret it!”
Anger - “This just can’t be right!”
Bargaining - “Can you face your true feelings?”
Depression - “I was stupid... So stupid.”
Acceptance - “My Very Best Friend”

Most people assume that the LSD fueled montage following the initial cracking of the soul gem was like an edgy montage of symbolism representing what was happening in some deep, obscure way but no, what you see on screen literally happens.

First you see at 0:51 the initial impact of the soul gem’s internal structure failing and thus releasing massive amounts of energy but it’s framed like an artsy shot representing her despair escaping into reality.
Then at 0:55 we see the actual surface level breakage of the soul gem, which is pretty straight forward.

Here’s my favorite shot of the whole sequence guys. At 0:56 we see the actual initial form of the grief seed itself! Here’s my theory on the shot.

You have your soul gem on the outside, the gem holding your very soul. And inside of that, you have a grief seed that sits inert until the soul’s despair allows the seed to develop into a proper grief seed. When that happens, the cage around the grief seed violently shatters the soul gem around it like a chick from its egg. This is what we are seeing at 0:56, crumbling soul gem surrounding it and all. After all of this, the cage surrounding the grief seeds stone in the center snap releasing the physically manifested despair in the form of a witch.

Now that tangent aside, we can return to the montage.
0:58 the grief seed seems to enlarge itself while sayakas lifeless body drops to the floor. For whatever reason, I guess grief seeds get huge when hatching for the first time. Not everything in the montage is 100% perfect.
And finally, 1:04, the grief seed’s surface breaks to release the witch inside while a labyrinth forms around it.

So there, the completely analyzed breakdown of the acid trip that is this scene that literally NO ONE asked for.

Enjoy I guess.

Kyoko was literally the only normal magical girl in their group lol, madoka is a god, mami is always loosing her head both physically and mentally, homura is obsessed with saving madoka, and sayaka always ends up being depressed and becoming a witch.

This scene really did hurt me in the kokoro.
But say whatever you want about Hitomi and the fact that she was totally the reason why Sayaka died and turned into a witch.  I am 100% sure that Hitomi would have totally backed off if she knew anything about the witches and the magical girls and everything they were going through.  This is why it's a tragedy.  Hitomi didn't know, and ended up making a move that ended up killing her friend.

0:52 I believe the shadowy image is mami, with her head being torn off. Because Mami was a huge inspiration for Sayaka and the grief of losing her was one of the things that made her lose her sense of purpose. Before that we see flashes of Sayakas past, such as watching a concert as a little girl.

It's epic how Decretum was quiet and barely audible in the beginning, but loudly jumps to the climax when the time came. It made it all the more sad and nostalgic, like a hero's tale drawing to a tragic close.

The way her lifeless body just drops and is blown away the moment her gem shatters is brutal. Sayaka's end is one of the most heartbreaking points in the series.

Sayaka knew what she was doing when she wasn't cleaning her soul gem, putting herself at risk and ignoring herself. It wasn't an accident. It was a suicide.
