In this video we double the size of an apartment kitchen by making a stylish modern kitchen benchtop out of basic, construction-grade 2x4 pine.

The kitchen cupboards are from the off-the-shelf Kaboodle range from Bunnings and are great quality for the price.

Season 4 - Filmed and built July 2019 - Took a while to upload sorry!

Omgggg! That thing about alternating the woodgrain? You just taught me something super important and totally explained what happened with the TV stand I built....

I made a C-shape stand from laminated 2x4s, which were supported by two iron pipes in the mouth of the C. I couldn't figure out why the top of the stand bowed and the bottom didn't (because the water content should have been the same... the entire stand was made from the same boards and dried in the same conditions). I just checked and the bottom shelf that didn't bow alternated grain patterns and the top one that did bow didn't alternate.

No one ever told me about this. If only I had known that before, shoot. Thank you so much! I'm never going to make that mistake again, lolol

I would not do anything differently. The final look is incredible. Hard to believe it was made from inexpensive lumber. Great job, sir!

Awesome example of how to make something that looks expensive from basic materials and a fair whack of talent 👌

I love the use of cheaper timber, I use pallets for a lot of things I build because I don’t like to see timber thrown out. I think it’s my inner womble coming out. It looks great and has even impressed my wife 👍👍👍

Great short vid.

I completely messed up with the grain and it bowed up over an inch in one corner.
No bother, I just made a foot on one of the legs lol..

Measure twice, check grainn, check square. Check again then cut... Lol
