Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

Hey Chris, thank you so much for your very thoughtful and generous video. I love Marc's work as well. I think Michael is visiting us next week. I really appreciate your including me. My very best wishes, Ian.

Thanks so much Chris! Let's do some plein air if you ever visit California!

In the Studio Art Instruction with Dianne Mize. She teaches individual techniques rather than doing whole paintings.

Always cool when an awesome painter shouts out other awesome painters so we can all learn more 👏🏽

Paint Coach you are a rare phenomenon in our world. You recommend books and videos that really help us get better and not because you are getting commissions from them. I just bought some of the books you recommend, and they are fantastic. Thank you for being a great teacher and an example to all of us.

Stuart Davies - he does tonalist landscape oil paintings. He has a really loose style and his process is fun to watch. His vids take a painting from start to finish, and he's very encouraging of new painters to just get in there and start mucking about.

I subscribed to quite a numbers of oil painting Youtube channels, Vladimir Volegov, Florent Farges, Matthew Tarini Art, Alpay Efe, César Córdova, Samuel Earp, Andrew Tischler, Daria Callie, Michael James Smith, Malcolm Dewey, Bojidar Art, Beau B. Frank, Lena Danya, etc.

Florent Farges is one of my favorites. He is a scientist when it comes to perception, color etc. AND he is very creative and a philosopher, too. He is quite cerebral. I quite like my paint coach, too. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you for teaching us.

Funny I already followed Ian Robert’s and Michael Chamberlain. I’ll follow the other two as well.

Long time fan of Ian Roberts, his books before YouTube. He sends out a newsletter to subscribers every Tuesday with a link to a new video. I look forward to that each week. One I'd add to this list is Gerda Lipsky. She's German and it is in German with English subtitles. Interesting techniques that have shifted something in my brain that has completely transformed my work. Checking out this list.

Thanks for this video. By far James Gurney and Ian Roberts are the best! Love their books and videos, great information and inspiration in each video. You are an awesome coach and we all appreciate the time and effort producing the videos. Blessings and take care.

I borrowed Ian's book a long while back, but had no idea he had a channel, I will go check it out. Chris, I really love your teaching style, and really getting to the nuts and bolts of things. I've painted a long time off and on (mostly off) and have now started to follow your advice, I really like getting back into painting. Other teachers I like are Dianne Mize and Richard Robinson. Dianne is a retired art teacher and has wonderful small videos. Robinson mostly sells his videos now, but has good information on Youtube about using different effects in your landscapes

Already followed Chamberlein and Roberts. I also like Samuel Earp (he does a good job with narration), Yupari artist (that's the way it comes up on youtube) and Painting by Samir (he shows his painting and pallete as he works). Great job pointing out other artists!

Michael Chamberlain and Ian Roberts - yes! Chamberlain for his brush work and Roberts for how he simplifies a painting down to shapes and light/shadow.

This is so generous. You're wonderful. Agree about Ian Roberts. I find he talks about things that others don't. Plenty of aha moments in there for me.
