Derek Hynd has come closer to the quintessence of Free Flow surfing than anyone. He is an inspiration and reference point for true release and spiritual awakening. His insights come through the great creator as a divination.
Timothy Leary, who held great reverence for surfers, would be gobsmacked.

Derek Mahalo.... You gave me the greatest gift of al time "Classic Skegless" board surfing, I'm Old Skool Woodboard that today is called "Paipo" but I'm carring the Kanaka Maoli Original name "Papa Paepo`o" (Night Lander) and I use your many classic maneuvers on various sizes of surf including 6'ft (hawaiian-scale) 12'ft face and bigger, my hands are not holding unto the rails once I take the drop, bottom-turn and slide just like you... Your style is unique and classic poetry in motions that's who we Mahalo & God Hawaiian

DH, legend👍. Had a few conversations with Derek in Byron and he’s one interesting cat. Watching him sliding at the pass, poetry in motion! And back in the day riding HB surfboards, amazing surfing back then too✌️❤️

Maybe not on that board, but You can still carve with a finless board. Gotta use those rear rails and but some weight on the back foot.
