Hey guys! I just wanted to let you all know I used one bottle of thick water, I kept filling it back up so the cats can get a better look at it!

i like how they all instantly realize something is wrong just by looking at it

As someone with dysphagia, I've had to drink thick water since high school (over a decade now). I....don't blame your cats for disliking it, it was very fun to watch!

I love how they can tell it’s not their usual water just by the physics of the water.

Cute as this video is, I have to give you a HUGE thank you for actually taking the time to explain the purpose of thickened water! A lot of people who try the product neglect to mention why it was made and for who! It's an important thing to include <3

This reminds me of when my cat helped herself to my sprite because she thought it was water 😂 she jumped so high bc she was scared of the bubbles

My mother didn’t have dysphasia but at the end of her life she had to have thick water. She had no saliva because of cancer treatment and had to sip water all the time to keep her mouth and throat moisturized. Be cause of that the regular water would go down to her lungs and set off pneumonia. With the thick water it helped prevent that from happening.

I can relate to the Siamese. Trying something out of curiosity, even if it's gross. And continuing to nom just because I find its bizarre and unpleasant taste/texture fascinating. The look on that one's face isn't one of satisfying thirst so much as analyzing data.

Data: "This is REVOLTING!!!"
Guinan: "More?"
Data: "Yes please."

Random but I'm honestly glad you cleared up what the purpose of the water is and who's it for, instead of being like 98% of youtubers just going batshit questioning why such a disgusting creation even exists

They make fluids even thicker for people who can’t tolerate nectar thick (what you have). I’ve assisted patients with ‘drinking’ pudding-thick liquids, which you give with a spoon because they are literally thick as pudding. While these products are really helpful for preventing aspiration, they can also really suck for people who still have their taste and texture senses intact and can easily tell the difference

You can add thickener to normal water and it becomes thick water. I recently learned this while taking care of two patients with dysphagia.

Edit: I realize people are confused with the usage of thick water for swallowing problems. Dysphagia is when liquids have the tendency to flow through the wrong pipe, which can lead to problems such as choking and aspiration. This is caused by impaired ability to swallow properly, which necessitates the ingested liquid to be thick so the patient can have better control on the liquid, thus lessening risks for complications. The thickener causes the water to become more viscous without altering other properties, which makes it ideal for many types of liquids, like water and juices. These liquids are usually taken with other medicines, like Gavilax, which is powder.

Edit: I love a healthy reply section.

I I THINK I KNOW WHY THEY'RE DOING THAT.

Okay so first you need to know that cats can't see things that are close to their faces, because of how their hardware is made. So they use their whiskers to "see" things close to them. The thick water probably makes it feel like that is not water (because water doesn't push against their whiskers like that) and they're basically failing their water depth calibration test and then concluding that there's no water there.

Siamese cats though have genetic quirks related to their breed and they all are at least a LITTLE cross-eyed, so they all pretty much learn depth perception in a different way so they might ironically be better at figuring out how close the thick water is to their face because they're already used to being bad at distance and compensating.
(Plus I'm pretty sure that siamese cats are neurodivergent on top of their mild-to-severe cross-eyed-ness, honestly their breed has these really weird brain things going on compared to more... usual cats.)

This is just a hypothesis but if anyone has a non-siamese cross-eyed kitty those SHOULD also figure out the thick water quickly and not go "...this isn't water wtf".

This brings back all the times I had to make my post-stroke patients drink this. They didn't like it either. I think it's better with a flavored liquid like juice or tea.

The fact that she always poured a new one for each cat is so honorable

Hey just FYI, my 3 year old son is addicted to this video! He loves the cats, and I notice he really responds with laughter more with the added-in sound affects:)

Odd that only the siamese liked it, but siamese tend to be the odd ones out when it comes to felines. Having had two, I know this from experience.

And had an introduction to the 'thickened water in hospital, and I agree with the cats - YUCK!

I didn’t realize difficulty swallowing had a name- been struggling with it for awhile, should try this as water is a constant struggle and I’d honestly rather just be dehydrated than even bother with the pain. Thanks for the info!
Update: thank you to all of the helpful comments! I am looking into getting it checked out, but because I am A), a minor and my mother downplays my health issues(she literally just forced me to eat dry food without liquids, something I need to swallow and yes, I did choke and no, she did not learn her lesson), B) living in Nova Scotia where there is a healthcare crisis and C), have sensory issues nobody takes me seriously on my numerous eating and drinking related problems it has been hard. I do have an appointment booked medication related that I should be able to bring it up at and an ot appointment I also will, hopefully they both take me seriously.

Thick water. Thought that only existed in my inner world! Might try this when I'm sick and have a sore throat!

Pet Outlet: Smashes the thickened water bottle on the table for no reason
Mist: *The cat was too stunned to speak*

These judges were pretty fair, thankfully you didn't go after Gordon Ramsay and turn him into a cat to do this. Fun fact, cats inherently prefer running water to standing water as a way to avoid unsafe drinking water. I wonder if the thickness of the water tricks that part of the brain into thinking it's unsafe?
