The logic behind taking 10s is that theyre less likely to be traceable than bigger bills like 50s and especially 100s. Theyre also much more spendable in day to day life, you can spend a 10 dollar bill basically anywhere you go, but now a days due to both the prominence of electronic payments as well as the larger security risk many businesses no longer accept bigger bills like 50s and 100s due to not wanting/needing to stock sufficient change to break them.
