I'm a single mum with only my parents to help me with my son, I work and I see my friends whilst still making time for family, if I can find the time to talk to people and send texts I can tell you any guy can too! I never accept this excuse anymore, so many guys I've spoken to have made the excuse an it bothers me so much

You are right. Being busy is not a great excuse. However a girl wouldn't want a guy who only likes spending time with her but nothing else or no other commitments in his life, also if you spend too much time together or talk too much then sooner or later it won't be exciting being together anymore so yeah a little bit space and absence maybe a good thing.
