We see a lot of coupes in our practise who get confused what to do and what not to do in early pregnancy and they do ask us about it also. First and foremost thing is once your urine tests is positive, it is essential that you consult an Ob-Gyn doctor. Who will be advising you the care in pregnancy. What happens in the first visit is you are screened for any high risk factors, any background diseases and an ultrasound is advised and your care in pregnancy is advised. Forest and foremost thing is det. What to eat and what not to eat. Most of the women develop version to many foods. So what I advice is eat what you find is tasty to you and what smells good to you. There are many foods that they will not be liking and don’t force them to eat those and it is normal for most of them to develop nausea and vomiting, which will start around 5 to 6 weeks of pregnancy. It will usually peak around 9 to 10 weeks. So that is the normal pattern. There will be few lucky one who don’t have this at all. In few it will persist even after 12 weeks. Knowing this normal trend you should know what to expect like nausea, vomiting, early morning sickness will increase slowly and then reduce on its own. There are lot of things that you can do to prevent it from getting aggravated, a small frequent meal schedule. You should be eating every 2 hours. Don’t force feed yourself, at the same time don’t give too much of gap between your meals, that is when you develop gastritis. When you develop gastritis that is when you will feel early satiety and you will feel full when you are having meals. You won’t feel like having meals. So split your meals into 2 to 3 parts and every 2 hours you should be eating something. It can be 1 or 2 biscuits , a toast, a banana, an apple, anything that you like or you find tasty. But make sure the food you are eating is hygienic. There are lots of myths about fruits and vegetables to be taken during pregnancy. There are all myths only and with respect to fluid intake atleast 2 to 3 litres per day is expected for a pregnant woman to be taken. You can’t take big glasses of water at once. If you take big quantities, you will puke. If you gulp you ill puke. So if you sip you won’t. If you sip small quantities off water, keep a bottle handy. It can be just water, lemon water, coconut water, juices, buttermilk, anything 2 to 3 litres per day. Why because to will be prone for urinary tract infections in early pregnancy. So keeping yourself well hydrated is very crucial. And it will also improve your dizziness if you are well hydrated and lifting heavy weights is a no no. You and your normal activity in early pregnancy. Unless you have been asked to rest. Don’t do anything heavy and strenuous. Long distance travelling have to be avoided, preferably in early pregnancy. A scan is also essential in early pregnancy. So these are the routine advices in early pregnancy.
