Finally getting seat time in the Tesla Model Y! It's taken me a few years and a few failed attempts but this is truly my first time EVER stepping foot in the Model Y. Come join me on my very first drive where I'll share some of my first impressions about this 2022 Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Long Range.

For some context, I'm a happy owner of a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD Limited AND a 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance. BUT my windshield and sunroof on the Ioniq 5 were recently cracked by a rock and so we were able to jump into this red Model Y as a rental.

I think folks trying to compare a MY like it’s the best build/quality EV out there for the money is slightly missing the point. Not to mention it also have features others don’t have (sentry mode, streaming services, auto steer, scheduled preconditioning, ability to grant someone access and drive the car via the app, FSD development, etc…). With all the shortcomings some have pointed out, you begin to realize where the value really lies when you pack a family and fit everyone’s luggages on a +6hr road trip and not have to worry ONCE where you’re going to get your next charge, compete with all the other EVs and if it even works when you get there (and we can use third-party chargers too).

I have a Model Y and I think your review is spot on and you have identified my complaints about the Y in this short drive review as well as some of the things that the Y is good at. If I were buying today, I would seriously consider the GV60.

Awesome video brother! Very informative. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis have set the bar very high. My brother in law who has a model X says that these 3 companies have already passed Tesla in quality. He was very impressed with my EV6 AWD GT Line.

I think your video is spot on. I own a model 3 but tested a Kia ev6. I love the model 3 and I've had no problems with it and 8, 000 miles since may. But the road noise and inconsistent build quality in certain areas gets on my nerves. If it weren't for the superior charging Network and the software experience in a Tesla I may have something else. I think by the time I trade this in those issues will be resolved with charging networks for other automakers. However, maybe the second generation Tesla's will resolve their build quality issues.

Number one thing people forget with lack of controls is you can do 90% with voice. My dad turns F he wipers on with his voice

Hey Victor, thanks for doing this great review, it's pretty hard to find an honest comparison between the IONIQ5 and Tesla Model Y that actually weighs pros and cons.

I think these 3 cars he's comparsing is a bellweather of what is coming in the future. The Tesla Y is a minimalist platform, the Ioniq tries to be sporty, and the QV60 is trying to be plush. Many people say the Teslas are a bit utilitarian and not luxurious enough as an Audi or BMW or MB. As every auto manufacturer will be adding EV models, this is a good thing. To me, if you disreguard looks, interior ambiance, handling and such, the only thing that you notice (because you are actively driving a car) is the noise level. Every car is quiet at city speeds, but there is a huge difference from 30-50-70+. My old MX was noisier at 50+ than a Sienna minivan, Highlander Limited and Lexus 450h. Actually my old Highlander Hybrid Limited is the quietest of those 4 at 50+ mph and even to 100mph. To me, that feels the most luxurious, not the dash, buttons, seats, etc. A few dollars of sound proofing are worth it.

Jubilee - the Tesla steering wheel has many of the functions and there is hands free VOICE command.

Jubilee - if you use FSD beta, you can rest your foot . While on Autopilot on highway or FSD beta on city streets and roads .

IDK... no 360 camera, no Apple/Android integration, no cross traffic alert, noisy, rough ride, rattles. Not saying I’d never buy one, but definitively not today. Thanks for the review.

Yes, the Model Y has many features not in the Hyundai or Genesis. That said, your list: no ventilated seats, no shade on sun roof, NO BUTTONS, bumpy ride, much more wind noise, much more road noise, motor whine, poor rear view visibility would keep me away from any car. At more than 24% higher price (+$13, 745!!!) than the Ioniq 5 Limited (with light gray interior!) it just has no appeal for me.
Really appreciate your efforts to always be fair and honest in your videos.👍

Great vid. My first time on your channel. Do you have an answer for the ‘big question’?: If you had to choose which car to own regardless of price, would you now select the MY or GV60? Thanks.

Hyundai/Kia/Genesis seem to be doing the best job of producing EV's in volume that match the basic Teslas in range, charging and performance while being a bit more quiet and more comfortable ride. Geat job. I, however, chose the Model Y for the Supercharging network and potential for Autonomy driving in the future.

Nice job Victor. Happy to hear your impressions. My MY has the 19 inch tires which supposedly makes the right slightly more compliant. Can’t say for sure though as I have never driven on the 20’s. Really sorry you cant get the full ownership experience which can only be realized by having the app. Looking forward to some follow ups. Not sure if I ever asked you, but did you test out the EV6?

Jubilee - there is NO need to change amount of REGEN in a TESLA.
it's, set up for always 100% one petal drive.
you can adjust how aggressive the Regen is from the menu and adjust creep.

I have the M3 and it rides kinda hard. Is the MY the same?

I've got a GV60 performance on order, having not had the chance to try out the Model Y (I would have been quite interested in the long-range version, but they do not sell them here in Australia yet). I'd be very interested in a comparison of the 2 cars. Thanks for the content!

Interesting. I was assuming you would be less keen on the Tesla based on what I had heard on build quality, also the driving feel and UI interface.

Good to hear your opinions knowing that you go more in depth than many reviewers. Plus many Tesla owners don't venture beyond the brand haha.

Looking forward to hearing your longer term thoughts (so hopefully not too long term for your sake with the Ioniq 5 repair!).

Its important to also mention what year this MY is. They've improved the road noise a bit in the 2022 models. By the look of the left side door, I would say it's 2021 or older..
