Today we are looking at each version of the Benchmade Osbourne to break down the differences and help you decide which is the best fit for your EDC.

Highly regarded as one of the most quintessential EDCs of all time, the Warren Osborne-designed Benchmade 940 is slim and stylish offering time-tested performance in nearly any situation you can imagine after over two decades of use in the field.

The 945 is a Mini version of the classic design that offers the same lightweight and robust AXIS lock platform in a more compact platform perfect for urban carry.

A logical evolution of this classic design, the 9400 is a button lock automatic retaining most of the essential design elements of the 940 while supplying one-handed, automatic operation for a practical tactical everyday carry option.

My absolute favorite EDC knife of all time. Perfect in every way. I’ve been carrying mine for almost 20 years.

I never wanted one of these & I have over 50 mid to high end folders. I was recently gifted a 940 and I must say most mornings when I get dressed I choose the Osborne to go in the pocket. So comfortable in the hand, useful blade shape, and just disappears in the pocket. Slowly becoming a favourite of mine. Well done benchmade

The 940 is a great knife. I bought one 18 years ago and it is still going on. It is the last knife I would ever part with, willingly.

The 940 is hands down the best edc knife in my opinion. Sold mine a long time ago & just ordered another one. Can’t tell you how happy I was having my 940 back in my pocket. I have far more expensive knives but this one knocks them all out my pocket. Strictly a beast of a workhorse knife nothing else 🤙🏼

Just bought my first Benchmade today and I bought the Osborne 940. I was looking pretty seriously at the Bugout but handled the 940 and had to have it. It feels great and is surprisingly light. Good review!

aluminum is my favoritee handle material. Strong and sturdy. Also never had a problem with blowing crud out of my enclosed 940

First Benchmade I owned, standard 940 with the black blade. The last Benchmade purchased, the 9400 plain bright blade. Love em both and the 940 has gotten the most pocket time of any of my large rotation. I have also carried my 941 a bunch.

I have the titanium 20th anniversary model you speak of. It’s the 940-2001. S90V, smooth titanium scales, red thumb studs and red standoffs. I think they are pretty collectible now and worth a decent amount but I don’t care it’s been one of my primary EDC knives for several years. I love the 940 and I wanted to get the coolest one possible and use the hell out of it.

I also put in all blue hardware and thumb studs and standoffs because I love the titanium with anodized blue titanium look and then benchmade copied me and ended up releasing another 20th anniversary model the 940-2003 with blue hardware

i had 4 pm2's and somehow always got rid of them, i have only bought one 940-2 and still have it.
i just love this knife, such a slim yet capable profile, awesome blade shape, one of the best locks in the market.
a slim yet really robust and easy to carry edc, i have many knives that cost tripple the price, yet i carry the 940-2 at least 5 out of 7 days of the week.
not a fan of the tiny 945 though, gave that one to my wife.

I have both the mini for Carbon fiber and traditional green aluminum. I remove the clip for the mini models for the office. What an exquisite model.

Also warren osborne never marketed this knife as a tactical folder. It was made for ranch use for cutting tags off or cattle/swine ears by using the angle backside of the tip. He added the titanium purple backspacer as a pop for when he went out to church or gatherings.

I can't help but think of Spiderman every time I see the original green/purple design on this knife. I hear Osborne and think of Norman Osborn who is the Green Goblin (which wears a green and purple armor/costume design.

I had the grey wharncliffe years ago, not a bad knife but I just didn't like the aluminum handle. Sold it to fellow Benchmade Forum member for what I paid and bought something else. I still say the 705 was the best edc they ever made. I've still got my 705 forum knife in M2, it's the knife that started my fascination with HSS blades.
