On August 17, 2023, a solar prominence appeared on the western side of the Sun, ejecting a large amount of hot plasma. During the ejection process, a swirling X-shaped pattern could be observed. This event was captured by the Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory’s solar full-disk chromosphere telescope, which relied on a high-resolution, low-readout-noise CMOS camera (QHY600M). The study of solar prominences is of significant importance in understanding the physical properties of the Sun and its impact on Earth. For instance, solar prominences can lead to solar storms, affecting Earth’s magnetic field and communication systems. Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory.
