NASA’s 4K View of April 17 Solar Flare

Показать описание
On April 17, 2016, an active region on the sun’s right side released a mid-level solar flare, captured here by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. This solar flare caused moderate radio blackouts, according to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center. Scientists study active regions – which are areas of intense magnetism – to better understand why they sometimes erupt with such flares. This video was captured in several wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light, a type of light that is typically invisible to our eyes, but is color-coded in SDO images for easy viewing.

The music is Collide by Greg Lehrman in the KillerTracks catalog.

It helps to put things in perspective, when we small beings on this small planet, can see such a stunning explosion of raw power, and know that it was considered a "medium sized" event of this nature.

Has anyone got a 4K projector, and just has an entire wall in a room dedicated to displaying these gigantic sun animations 24/7?

Are these time-lapse videos? What does a flare look like in real time? Pretty slow I imagine?

Superb, scary, fashinating....out of reach and yet what we can't avoid. Superb choice of OST as well.

Is this actual footage from the solar observatory or is this a computer animation/simulation? The image is so crisp and detailed that it doesn't look real - it looks like CGI.

Videos like this never include a time scale. Did this occur in under two minutes or is it a time lapse? It could have happened over minutes, hours, days, or weeks. Knowing this would change the perspective entirely.

You can't use an awesome post-rock track and then not give the details on the artist/track/album ;)

Great work, as always.

Be nice to have a 'live' stream in 4k or 8k available that zooms into activity areas. I would buy a new 4K just to watch it 24/7 ...
