This book is on my owned TBR and I’m so pumped for it. Wasn’t aware of the mental health aspects but that has me even more excited.

This book will always hold a special place in my heart. It accompanied me on my first trip back to my homeland in 10 years, which made it an even more meaningful read. Being from a culture that is close to the persian one I had a great time discovering the paralles in language and traditions and feeling maybe for the first time something close to representation. Especially the saying "your place is empty" is so familiar to me and it makes me happy that others will who read this book will discover it now as well.

I loved this book much. It gave me serious Ari & Dante vibes in that way that you described of being softly affirming. It is definitely a favorite now. The scene where Darius and his father are speaking towards the end of the book made me shed a few tears.

Yess totally agree with what you've highlighted here. The way this story covers family, friendship and the honesty around menatal health is so necessary. I think one of my favorite things is how food just brings everyone together in every culture.

Excellent review! You convinced me to read Darius. I bought this book a few weeks ago but haven't started it. This isn't normally my kind of read. This book only came on my radar because of a local media story in the Kansas City Star. The author of Darius (Adie Khorram) lives only across town from me in one of the small burbs of Kansas City. He's a local writer. 😀
