Why bother setting up an FTP server?
Just use BitTorrent Sync, it works just like DropBox, except it's faster, it's free, and you have as much storage as your hard drive allows... And it's immensely secure too

You don't need to sign up for an account, you don't need to pay anything, if you leave a computer running at home you can sync with it from anywhere in the world, and it's super easy to set up...
