Pentium 60 System

I don't think it was ever unclear that I had mixed feelings towards my Pentium 60 system, so will this one prove any more reliable? I can say this much, I do like this one more despite some small shortcomings - these are barely noticeable in the real world.

*Creative Commons licensing doesn't work because the copyright system pulled me up for using a song that isn't even on sale anymore. You have my permission to download the video and use footage of the machine or the benchmarks at least. So everything but the song is Creative Commons and you are free to use it. Leave the record alone though.*

This video does use a song; Megatronic - Into the Fire
This falls in line with the "fair use" terms as I am using it for educational purposes, in that, I am demonstrating how the Pro Audio Spectrum Plus reproduces such things. The whole song would be impossible to retrieve from the video. However, should the record label have issue with this I urge them to contact me so I can rectify this issue. I would have posted a buy link but I could not find one, so I assume the record is no longer on sale.

I don't know what is wrong with my audio recording loop, I suspect I will find out when I take it out today or tomorrow. Personally I expect the sound card in the workstation is rotted out from leaking cooling fluid, it was growing blue fur last time I saw it (Hears Sonic 1 theme) and I don't imagine that this has magically gone away.

This will be the last computer video ever recorded at my current house, so the next time you see one I will be in a different place. I have no idea how this will affect videos, but filming has been cramped here and I don't imagine that will improve in a room half the size of this one. Perhaps I should get rid of everything and spend my life in an almost empty room watching TV... Nah!

Chin up lad, this will not be your last computer video. Your channel is one of my favourites by the way. I always enjoy your videos and the way you present things. You have a great thing going on with this channel and I frequently mention your videos to others.

If I was up your way, I'd totally help you move, probably end up messing about with some hardware along the way too haha.

From a fan in Melbourne, Australia, I wish you the very best!

For the past five years, thank you.

Here's to another five years!

It sucks but this could be a new beginning... leave all the bad stuff behind and start fresh.

I just have to say your videos are amazing, and the whole of your perspective is pretty obvious, you don't just tell the things about how old machines supposed to work, but give a wide perspective of your view on it. You got +1 subscriber, would love to see more of your videos. It's a shame you have such an obscure status, you should get a lot more viewers than it is at the moment. You are very smart and know how the things are supposed to work. Привет из рашки дружбан)

I'm not nearly as tech-savvy as you, and as a result sometimes dont understand the information you are giving, but I still greatly enjoy your videos. I like your enthousiasm en because of that, this is one of my favourite channels on youtube. The day HighTreason leaves youtube would make me a sad panda.

My Pentium60 had the FDIV bug. I took advantage of the replacement program at a local retailer. But before I did, I put a 66MHz crystal oscillator, and the tech who replaced the CPU didn't notice and replaced it with a real Pentium66. It'd be interesting to know if bugged CPUs are more common than corrected ones?

Great video. I still have that Pentium 60 gold top processor sealed in its original box. Even though it was kind of a crap processor, it holds a special place for me. Best of luck moving forward.

Name Suggestion: Preston I think it would be a fitting name given your feelings about the house and living where you grew up. Unless you want it to be a chick name, then... idk.. being a 90's guy myself, by the way.. I totally am right there with you about the music. Ya I crank ace of base now and then. Back to the name... maybe Buffy since that is totally 90's. Anyway if you think 700+ subs are a big deal, try looking one day and seeing you suddenly are over 2k! Kind of why I did the Socket 7 video now.

That Socket 4 motherboard... funny that... about a couple months ago, I came across this exact board on ebay. From your part of the world too. I put a bid on it, but was heavily outbid, that's ok, it went for WAY more money than I ever wanted to pay for it, and then I found that Acer like a couple weeks later. I would have accused you of being the one that outbid me on the thing, but when you said it was used when you did the overdrive video.. well I figured it wouldn't have been you. Looks like about the same performance and as mine. On the overclocking side of it, I did try overclocking all 3 of my processors to 80Mhz, since I have an 80Mhz crystal from a 386 board. Ya they didn't like that too much. Probably due to the PCI and memory being pushed way out of spec. I bet 75 would be achievable though, provided one could find a 75Mhz crystal. You might for shits, put EDO on that board. I know it doesn't technically support it, but it would be interesting to see if it works. I say that because, as you know, my Acer runs that Intel Mercury chipset, although it uses an Acer IDE controller, but it does amazingly work with EDO ram. I see no benefit in memory scores with EDO, but I thought it had to be a mistake, and I tried it with different EDO ram and it still worked. I don't know what they did to make EDO work on a chipset that doesn't support it.

Maybe before you leave, you should just do a video tour of your place there. Could just leave it unlisted and link to it if people want to go watch it. Might also consider leaving a big shit in the toilet right before you leave for good, just your way of thanking the council for "relocating" you :)

AZ1000BP corrupted your hard drives? What does the card look like?

There are Pentium Overdrive processors for Socket 4 (120MHz and 133MHz) - but they are hard to find and not really worth the trouble

The serial ports probably work fine, but use a different pin layout using the dtk/intel/supermicro stamdard. Maybe you connected a bracket with at/everex connectors to this motherboard, and that indeed doesnt work .

I've got a 2x version of that CDROM. painfully slow but I don't need anything faster for a 386-20

How well does a Pentium 60 do in Windows 95?

Great, your workstation's sound card is evolving into an antro hedgehog. Keep your spiders away from it.
