Several parts of southern Tamil Nadu flooded, trains and flights cancelled

Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi witnessed heavy rains on December 17, triggered by a cyclonic circulation off the coast of Sri Lanka. A public holiday was declared in Kanyakumari,
Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli & Tenkasi on December 18 with more rains forecast for these districts.

Heavy rain Kanyakumari Tirunelveli Thoothukudi. All these three districts have recorded more than 50 cm of rain in 24 hours and many places have recorded more than 95 cm of rain. A train with a thousand passengers is stuck in an area called Srivaikundam. It is now surrounded by rainwater to an extent that cannot be approached. Lakes and ponds have broken in many places and water has entered the city.

People should start digging wells in every house like olden days this could be one important saver for floods..

I hope and pray that people are shifted to safe places. Something should be done to utilise the heavy rain fall to states where the rain fall is very less so that the problem of water shortage can be addressed. As a country I hope states come up with a plan along with the centre to bring such long term vision for the benefit of people. Whenever there is shortage of water the routing also can be done from North to South and vice versa. I hope the state and centre look beyond corruption and bring people centric long term policies in place.
