There was a game I remember watching, I think it was Chelsea vs Werder Bremen. I believe Chelsea won 3-0 or 4-0. Essien didn't score in that game, but I've not seen a central midfielder dominate a game like that. It was insane. It was from the 05/06 season I believe.

Esssien was an above average defensive/ central midfielder.
Prime essien was a game changer.
As good as makelele but more attack minded in his prime without injuries.
A utility player somewhat, very talented player with too many injury problems too early.
